1 | But can WE know this? | Hebrews | Dud M3 | 1275
I interpret the Bible as saying that someone who believes in his heart that he is saved, has honestly submitted himself to Jesus, and follows the other aspects of salvation that are spelled out in the Bible, need harbor no doubt as to his salvation. Certainly, it is not for us to judge the salvation-state of others, as charis and JVH0212 point out in this forum. Moreover, nowhere does the Bible command us to regard the saved and unsaved in different manners. We can only go on what people tell us: if someone claims to be saved, and exhibits outward signs of it, then we must step forward on faith and act as if he is indeed saved. Woe indeed to him to so deceives a person doing what is right in Christ. |

2 | why did God create the world | Gen 1:1 | Dud M3 | 1274
God is indeed all-knowing. I think he provides suffering, pain, and evil for our benefit. Such tribulations are opportunities for us to grow in spirit. God has some big plans that we don't know about for those who have been saved, during and after the second coming, and (I don't mean to be crass, just trying to make my point), God doesn't need wimps, he needs warriors! He needs a people strong in spirit, who have suffered much and overcome! We can't control the suffering, pain, and evil that Satan brings, but we can control how we respond. If we act on faith that God is indeed loving and merciful, then surely He would never subject us to such things if He didn't know we could overcome them. The problem is, people get caught up in the world and lose sight that they *can* overcome anything Satan dishes out. Philippians 4:13, "I can do EVERYTHING [my emphasis] through him [Christ] who gives me strength." (NIV)
3 | Is any type of contraception allowed? | Bible general Archive 1 | Dud M3 | 1273
I think the Bible is silent on contraception. Also, God commands us to (Gen 1:28) "be fruitful and increase in number." Not everyone is moved by God to desire large families, yet are blessed with lust in their marital relationship. Such couples ought to turn to contraception to keep their bodies and minds healthy and providing an outlet that can only strengthen their marital bond. Abstinence becomes contraception also. For example, at a moment you and you spouse are filled with lust for one another, failing to give in to that God-given feeling is contraception. |

4 | scriptures on how and why to prayto buil | Bible general Archive 1 | Dud M3 | 1272
(From Robert Schuller, Move Ahead with Possibility Thinking, p.51 of the Jove paperback edition): Ask God to help you...once, and never again. For if you have sent Him one petition you may be sure He has your message. Stop asking, but don't stop praying. Stop begging and start thanking. To continue to plead will only indicate your lack of faith in His hearing or helping power. To continue to ask will only generate or intensify your emotional misery. This will weaken you. It will not inspire you. It will not strengthen you. Pleading, negative praying, only exercises and strengthens your anxieties. Someone said: God weighs our prayers, he doesn't count them. In the right way, in the right time, God will answer. So make your prayers affirmative, not negative.
5 | What is Escaping Corruption of World? | Hebrews | Dud M3 | 1267
Perhaps, striving to live with God first in one's life, recognizing the negative influences of others and moving past them.
6 | Is masturbation wrong? | 1 John 2:16 | Dud M3 | 1266
Based on my reading of the Bible, I interpret it to be wrong if it detracts from a healthy family relationship. Otherwise (say for a single person or someone with an impotent spouse), it is certainly preferable to unfaithfulness. Nevertheless, I do recognize that being "preferable" doesn't in and of itself make it "okay." Our sexual urges are biological, and I don't think God would bless us with strong urges if he wished us not to find release in a harmless manner. However, in some cases, masturbation could lead to indulgence in pornography or worse. I guess my answer is, it is okay, so long as your motives are pure.
