1 | language Jesus speak | NT general Archive 1 | Alencon | 118826
Aramaic appears to have been the day to day language in Palestine. Koine (or common) Greek was the language of commerce in the Eastern Mediterranean since the days of the Alexandrian Empire. Latin and Hebrew appear to have been reserved for formal occasions and study. Jesus probably used Aramaic on a daily basis if for no other reason than the poor people he spoke to most likely spoke Aramaic. He probably also knew Hebrew since he was familier with the Old Testament and as a Jew would have received at least some education in the language. His father was a carpenter and perhaps Jesus worked for a while as one as well, therefore at least a basic knowledge of Greek may have been useful. |

2 | Virgin birth and Jesus' identity | NT general Archive 1 | Alencon | 118813
I can give you the alternatives postulated by various "heretical" branches of early Christianity. Adoptionists - Jesus was a righteous man adopted by God as his son to be the saviour of the world at his baptism by John therefore Jesus was fully human. Marcionites - Jesus had no human context at all. His was never born and was completely divine. His human body was only an illusion. Gnostic Seperatists - Jesus was completely human but the Christ was divine and inhabited Jesus at his baptism by John, left Jesus at his crucifiction and rejoined him at his resurrection. I placed heretical in quotes because I am in no position to pass judgement. Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: |

3 | Did Jesus have brothers and sisters? | NT general Archive 1 | Alencon | 118794
Jesus certainly had brothers and sisters, the most well known of which was James the Righteous, who became a Christian leader in Jeruselem. As to whether they were also the children of Mary, the bible doesn't specifically say to my knowledge, but they appear to have been younger than Jesus so it would seem likely. Mk 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. Mtt 13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? |
