Bible Question:
What are the alternative identities of Jesus if the virgin birth is denied? According to such a stance would it mean that God himself in Christ did not atone for man's sin? |
Bible Answer: I can give you the alternatives postulated by various "heretical" branches of early Christianity. Adoptionists - Jesus was a righteous man adopted by God as his son to be the saviour of the world at his baptism by John therefore Jesus was fully human. Marcionites - Jesus had no human context at all. His was never born and was completely divine. His human body was only an illusion. Gnostic Seperatists - Jesus was completely human but the Christ was divine and inhabited Jesus at his baptism by John, left Jesus at his crucifiction and rejoined him at his resurrection. I placed heretical in quotes because I am in no position to pass judgement. Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: |
