3 | What about people who follow horoscopes? | Bible general Archive 2 | shalor | 101413
(Lev 19:26 NASB) 'You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor practice divination or soothsaying. (Deu 18:10 NASB) "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, Since horoscopes are a form of Divination the old testament law was quite clear on the subject. The new testament frees us through Christ's propitiation from the law but teaches us to center our lives around Christ, both Christ in us and we in Christ. Is one's trust in the Stars or is it in the God who created the stars and gave us his son? If it is in the former the stars won't save if in the latter the the horoscope is not needed. |

4 | HOSANNA Shout: When shall it be used? | Bible general Archive 2 | shalor | 101609
"Hosanna" is a transliteration of the Hebrew and the Aramaic, meaning "save now, we pray." The spontaneity of the crowd and the palm branches (a symbol of the nation) suggest liberation. They quote from Ps. 118:25, a psalm of thanksgiving for deliverance from an enemy. But Jesus repudiates their military and political aspirations by sitting on a donkey, symbolic of humility and peace, rather than mounting a horse, a symbol of conquest. The crowd's idea of the Messiah's purpose was far different from His own. He came to liberate from sin's oppression and not from that of Rome. This occured on the Sunday before Christ's crucifixion and before Passover. |

8 | How does Satan operate in the world? | Bible general Archive 2 | shalor | 102182
(Luke 22:3 NASB) And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve. (Luke 22:31 NASB) "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; (John 13:27 NASB) And after the morsel, Satan then entered into him. Jesus therefore said to him, "What you do, do quickly." (Acts 5:3 NASB) But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back some of the price of the land? (1 Cor 7:5 NASB) Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again lest Satan tempt you because of your lack of self-control. (2 Cor 11:14 NASB) And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. (2 Th 2:9 NASB) that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, Just a few verses to show how satan operates. Primarily through deception and because of our lack of learning, self control, etc. |

9 | So Satan can take control of us?? | Bible general Archive 2 | shalor | 102264
One's own will is incapable of dealing with evil But through the power of Christ we can rebuke Satan and he will flee from us. (Eph 6:11 NASB) Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. (James 4:7 NASB) Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (1 Pet 5:8 NASB) Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Christ has that power and we must use his power and then Satan can be dealt with. |

11 | How did alter calls or invitations start | Bible general Archive 2 | shalor | 102625
What is often shocking to many who use the modern invitation system is that the altar call is just that modern. The practice, although widespread, is a very new phenomenon in the Christian church. For nearly nineteen centuries no one had ever heard of the practice. Such well known evangelists as George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, and even John Wesley had never even heard of such a custom. And Charles Spurgeon, that passionate winner of souls par excellence, although well acquainted with the practice, firmly refused to adopt it and even criticized it severely. Ironically, "the old fashioned altar call" was unheard of until the nineteenth century. It first came into being by the influence of Charles Finney, the pioneer of modern evangelistic methods. In Finney's crusades (c. 1830) seats at the front were reserved for those who, after the sermon, would respond to the challenge to come to the Lord's side. Those who were thus "anxious" for their souls were invited to walk forward to the "anxious seat" where counsel and prayer would be given them. The following quote from Finney's Lectures on Revival explains his view well. "Preach to him, and at the moment he thinks he is willing to do anything . . . bring him to the test; call on him to do one thing, to make one step that shall identify him with the people of God. . . . If you say to him, "there is the anxious seat, come out and avow your determination to be on the Lord's side," and if he is not willing to do a small thing as that, then he is not willing to do anything for Christ." The practice was designed to force decisions, to get results. So it did, and with slight variations the new method spread with increasing popularity through Finney and, later, Dwight L. Moody, and finally into virtually all of nineteenth and twentieth century evangelicalism. Peter Cartwright, Sam Jones, R. A. Torrey, Billy Sunday, Bob Jones, Gipsy Smith, Mordacai Ham, John R. Rice, Billy Graham all employed the method with impressive success. The invitation system had come to stay. What a Church is : A body: Paul says the church is a body under the control of its Head. What a tragedy it would be if that body refused to respond to the direction of its Head! In realm of medicine, there are diseases which ravage the nerve pathways which enable the human brain to control the human body. It is tragic and heartbreaking to see a person bound to a wheelchair or hospital bed, unable to control his movements and body functions. A church which is unresponsive to its Head is every bit as tragic and heartbreaking to watch. A temple: The church is also a temple for the exclusive habitation and use of a Person who dwells within, and who has the right to do with that temple whatever He wills. An army: The church is an army under the command of a king. An army that will not obey its leader is useless as a fighting force. Therefore, says Paul to the church, obey your orders, follow your Head. Church Purpose Purpose No. 1: The church is to reflect God's holiness Purpose No. 2: The church is to reveal God's glory. Purpose No. 3: The church is to be a witness to Christ. Church Mission Christ’s universal church and every local assembly have a threefold mission: (a) evangelism, i. e., going into all the world to make disciples through proclamation of the gospel in word and deed; (b) edification(discipleship), i. e., bringing every believer into personal and corporate maturity; (c) worship, i. e., giving heartfelt praise to the God revealed in the Word. None of the three may be subordinated. Rather, each aspect of this mission enhances the other two. For example, churches should not subtly discourage evangelism by stressing Bible study, but rather recognize that equipping members for evangelism is an integral part of their edification. |

15 | differance in the begining in genesis 1 | Genesis | shalor | 101613
Genesis 1 - Day one - heavens and earth are created. "Let there be light." Day and Night. - Day two - Atmospheric waters separated from earth waters. - Day three - Land appears separating the seas. Vegetation is made. - Day four - Sun, moon, stars are made. - Day five - Sea life and birds are made. - Day six - Land animals, creeping things, and man (male and female) are made. Genesis 2 States heaven and earth were created. no plant yet on earth, no rain yet, no man. but, a mist rose watering the surface of the ground. Then the Lord formed man from dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. Then God made Eve. There is no contradiction between Genesis 1 and 2. Genesis 1 is a detailed explanation of the six days of creation, day by day. Genesis two is a recap and a more detailed explanation of the sixth day, the day that Adam and Eve were made. The recap is stated in Gen. 2:4, "This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made earth and heaven." Then, Moses goes on to detail the creation of Adam and Eve as is seen in verses 7 thru 24 of Gen. 2. Proof that it is not a creative account is found in the fact that animals aren't even mentioned until after the creation of Adam. Why? Probably because their purpose was designated by Adam. They didn't need to be mentioned until after Adam was created. |

17 | Joseph experiences in Egypt | Genesis | shalor | 101683
Joseph was taken to Egypt where he became a trusted slave in the house of Potiphar, an official of the pharaoh. On false accusations of Potiphar's wife, Joseph was thrown in the royal prison, where he interpreted the dreams of two officials who had offended the pharaoh (Gen. 39-40). Eventually Joseph was brought to interpret some worrisome dreams for the pharaoh. Joseph predicted seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine and recommended a program of preparation by storing grain. Pharaoh responded by making Joseph his second in command (Gen. 41:39-45). With the famine, persons from other countries came to Egypt to buy food, including Joseph's brothers. They did not recognize him, but Joseph saw the fulfillment of his earlier dreams in which his brothers bowed down to him. After testing their character in various ways, Joseph revealed himself to them on their second visit (Gen. 42-45). Under Joseph's patronage, Jacob moved into Egypt (Gen. 46:1-47:12). Joseph died in Egypt but was embalmed and later buried in Shechem (Gen. 50:26; Ex. 13:19; Josh. 24:32). That the influential Joseph (Gen. 47:13-26) is not known from Egyptian records would be expected if he served under a Hyksos pharaoh, as seems likely. See Hyksos. Later Egyptians tried to erase all evidence of that period. The pharaoh "who did not know Joseph" (Ex. 1:8, NRSV) did not "know" of him in a political or historical sense. While in Egypt, Joseph became the father of two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim (Gen. 41:50-52), who were counted as sons of Jacob (48:5-6) and whose tribes dominated the northern nation of Israel |
