3 | Why can't I speak in tongues yet ? | Bible general Archive 4 | lookinforacity | 204347
Hi Joann: At last count you only got 3 responces to your question, and they were mostly, advice, not answers. Here are a few more scriptures, I thought you might like to take a look at, you can make up your own mind on wether or not, these are the ones you might be looking for, about speaking in tongues, I don't think you were talking about speaking in tongues, out loud in the Church were you? Your question sounded like you were talking about another type of tongues, what might be called your prayer language. So the answer to your specific question would be. As with a child you have to learn the language, you weren't fluent in the English language when you first started talking, the same thing here. Use the words you now have, the Holy Spirit will add to your vocabulary,as you grow. As you can, see Paul was telling the Church to not speak in their prayer language, in the church, because it causes confusion, and there might be people that were unlearned present, and they would call them mad. The type of tongues spoken in the Church, should only be done when there is someone there that can interpret, because these types of tongues, are the tongues of the (world, regular languages.) Like on the day of Pentecost when the disciples talked to the masses of people, they were from all over the known world, every one was amazed that they were hearing their own language being spoken. And they Praised God. 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 1 Corinthians 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. 1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 1 Corinthians 14:19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. HAVE A GOD BLESSED DAY |

4 | If a person hurts you and ask forgivenes | Bible general Archive 4 | lookinforacity | 205271
Hi Katielee: 44) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; At this point is he telling us, to keep putting ourselves into the position, to be Despitefully used again? Does he require that of us? If we stay in a relationship where a person, keeps slapping our face, THEN we are obligated to forgive. If you have forgiven, and I have to believe you have, then Matt. 18 doesn't apply. Romans 12:17-21 May clear it up for you. 17) Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18) If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20)Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21) Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. GOD BLESS Jim |

7 | Need good book series...entire bible... | Gen 1:1 | lookinforacity | 204854
Hi Egosophist You couldn't get a better Christian, biblical based direction, than the Bible itself. God inspired, faith based believers to write it for us, to be interpreted for us by the Holy Spirit. It is not another book of Philosophy, it isn't like any other book, in the entire world, it is a book from the Creator of the Universe, to us individually, if you open your heart, "God will talk to you personally". Just like when He talked to Adam, in the Garden. But if all you want, is a bunch of head knowledge, from other people's viewpoint then by all means, get a lot of books. There are literally tons of them out there. If that's your goal, then this one should do the trick. JESUS REDISCOVERED By MALCOLM MUGGERIDGE Have yourself a good year or so. JIM |

9 | Please HelpUnderstanding Sola Scriptura? | Gen 1:1 | lookinforacity | 205818
Hi Tamara: YOU GOT MAIL Sola scriptura ("Bible alone") The [first] objective [or formal] principle proclaims the canonical Scriptures, especially the New Testament, to be the only infallible source and rule of faith and practice, and asserts the right of private interpretation of the same, in distinction from the Roman Catholic view, which declares the Bible and tradition to be co-ordinate sources and rule of faith, and makes tradition, especially the decrees of popes and councils, the only legitimate and infallible interpreter of the Bible. In its extreme form Chillingworth expressed this principle of the Reformation in the well-known formula, "The Bible, the whole Bible, and nothing but the Bible, is the religion of Protestants." Protestantism, however, by no means despises or rejects church authority as such, but only subordinates it to, and measures its value by, the Bible, and believes in a progressive interpretation of the Bible through the expanding and deepening consciousness of Christendom. Hence, besides having its own symbols or standards of public doctrine, it retained all the articles of the ancient creeds and a large amount of disciplinary and ritual tradition, and rejected only those doctrines and ceremonies for which no clear warrant was found in the Bible and which seemed to contradict its letter or spirit. The Calvinistic branches of Protestantism went farther in their antagonism to the received traditions than the Lutheran and the Anglican; but all united in rejecting the authority of the pope. [Melanchthon for a while was willing to concede this, but only jure humano, or a limited disciplinary superintendency of the Church], the meritoriousness of good works, indulgences, the worship of the Virgin, saints, and relics, the sacraments (other than baptism and the Eucharist), the dogma of transubstantiation and the Sacrifice of the Mass, purgatory, and prayers for the dead, auricular confession, celibacy of the clergy, the monastic system, and the use of the Latin tongue in public worship, for which the vernacular languages were substituted. HOPE THIS HELPS IN HIM Jim |

11 | KJV question | Gen 34:19 | lookinforacity | 203867
Thomas: Nice to find someone else that keeps to a KJV only opinion. Shechem was more honorable, because he said I love this girl, and I want to do the right thing, by marrying her. He knew he had done wrong, and had disgraced her. He wanted to make her his Queen, but in killing Shechem, and all the men, her brothers disgraced her by making her have a child out of wedlock, making her child a bastard. While her brothers, on the other hand, were treacherous, plotting to kill Shechem, and his men. Now remember that they both lost their inheritance, in the promised land. The Tribe of Simeon, was included into the tribe of Judah, and the Tribe of Levi became the Priests, thus becomming the servants to the whole tribe of Israel. Those 2 portions of land, were given to the sons of Joeseph. Ephraim, and Manasseth. |

12 | homosexual brain wired that way at birth | Lev 18:22 | lookinforacity | 205783
Hi believer53: Some people have the belief, Homosexuality is the most heinous sin a person can commit, because of the word abomination connected with it. Strange because when we read, verse 23 says Mammilla, is only confusion. Seems to me they are coequal, well if we look at the whole chapter, verse 6 through 23 everything mentioned is abomination. Verses 24 through 30 tell us WHY, because in so doing the LAND is DEFILED. We as Christians, need to start calling, the acts mentioned here for what they truly are. ALL OF THE CUSTOMES MENTIONED IN THIS CHAPTER, FALL UNDER THE HEADING OF IDOLITRY. Last but by no means least, look at the very last sentence in the chapter. "I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD" God telling them again, you shall have no other gods before ME. GOD BLESS Jim |

13 | Disobedience to God - Why? | Num 20:11 | lookinforacity | 204350
Hi Inquire: These verses are pretty much self explanitory, It seems as though God was angry with them, because they didnt do as they were told. They also made themselves equil with God in saying, (WE) as though him and Aaron were the ones getting the water. God told him to speak to the rock, he hit it twice, that sounds like Moses was angry with them, and in showing anger to them he was in essance saying that God was angry also. 7And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 8Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. 9And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. 10And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? 11And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. 12And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. |

15 | 2Kings 3:16 version discrepancy, ESV/NAS | 2 Kin 3:16 | lookinforacity | 203938
Hi Psionspace: As far as I am concerned, the answer to your question is. Some of these other translations, arent translations at all, but interpretations, with a little bit of commentary thrown in. The following are the same verses, out of the KJV. I have also taken the liberty, to add another 2 verses, from the next Chapt. they were in the center referance for the purpose of clarification, and similarity of events. 2 kings 3: 16,17 16. And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches. 17. For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts. 2 kings 4: 3, 4 3. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. 4. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. The similarity is in the fact, that God performed a mirical, as would also be done with the fishes, and loves. I hope this helps you. I know your question was about why this kind of thing happens, I just wanted you to see that there are better translations than the ESV and why. |

17 | Age of accountability? | Is 7:16 | lookinforacity | 204089
Hi Child: Here are another 2 cents worth, by the time this is finished, you'll be rich! Anyway, my opinion, information, and a little bit of assumption thrown in for good luck. We are talking about a verse that is in the Old Test. Isaiah 7:16, that puts it into a Jewish belief when this age is, in the Jewish religion, a boy comes to the age of accountability, at his Bar-Mitzva. That comes to the age of 12. We can't look at things in the Jewish world, and try to figure them out, in a Gentile world mentality. Like in Revelation, how many of the things spoken of, relate only to a JEWISH TIMETABLE, if we dont understand the timetable to start with we will never come to the knowledge of the truth. |

Hi WWAT: It doesn"t mean much, but the Jewish people are discendants of the Caldeans,(Iraqi's through Abraham) plus when they were in Egypt, (410yrs.) they intermaried, so I would tend to believe, that Jesus would resemble a combination look. Not much help but close. Have a GOD BLESSED DAY Jim |
