1 | Cor 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope... | Bible general Archive 2 | james210 | 132192
As far as I know 'charity' is KJV for 'love'. Also, note that 'thou' was changed to 'you', 'thine' was changed to 'your', etc.
2 | Those who saw Christ didn't die, how? | Bible general Archive 2 | james210 | 132938
I put the wrong verse number in this question (it should be Ex 33:20). I'm going to do some more research on this subject before I post it again. James |

4 | What is the light in Genesis 1:3? | Gen 1:3 | james210 | 132275
The word 'light' seems to be used in two different ways. First in Genesis 1:3 God created 'light', the electromagnetic energy that is visible to the naked eye. In Genesis 1:14-18, He seems to be referring to sources of light (sun, moon, stars) when using the term 'light'. "Let there be LIGHTS (plural)" Gen 1:14. A good analogy would be for me to turn on a light (a lamp, etc) that emits light (the actual energy that we see). It may seem strange that God created light sources after He created light, but after this age has ended, we will no longer need those light sources (sun, moon, stars) because His glory will be our light. "And the city has no need of the sun nor of the moon to give light to it, for the splendor and radiance (glory) of God illuminate it, and the Lamb is its lamp." Revelation 21:23 |

5 | Why does God send storms? | Gen 3:17 | james210 | 133149
"And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: CURSED IS THE GROUND FOR THY SAKE; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life." Genesis 3:17 (emphasis mine) "For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now." Romans 8:22 When Adam sinned, God cursed the ground. All death and suffering come from mankind's sin. This does not necessarily mean that Hurricane Ivan was sent by God specifically to kill certain people that have sinned. God could be chastening our nation so that we should repent (see Revelation 3:19). There is also the possibility that the hurricane just happened - we live in a fallen creation marred by death and suffering. Note that Satan also has the ability to control the weather - see Job 1. |

6 | Christian Voting? | Gen 47:20 | james210 | 132360
I agree with you. We should definately vote and vote Biblical principles. Even if we don't like the main two candidates running there are always Christian third party candidates. But that's a debate for another forum.
7 | trumpet-God's voice or instrument | Ex 19:16 | james210 | 132765
Although it could be either, John describes the voice of God 'as a trumpet' in his revelation (Rev 1:10, Rev 4:1). As Reighnskye said, the trumpet is used for a call to war, and in Scripture this is confirmed (see 1 Corinthians 14:8). |

8 | Judges 19:29 When he entered his house, | Judg 19:29 | james210 | 131997
The Levite explains that the reason for sending parts of his concubine out is because of the crime that was committed It seems he wanted all of Israel to know what happened. Judges 20:6 says, "I took my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel, for they have committed abomination and [wicked] folly in Israel." It also seems to be a call to arms for Israel to inact justice on those who committed this act. The act wasn't just against the concubine, but against all of Israel. This may be why he sent out twelve pieces - one for each tribe (although, the Benjamites would not cooperate and turn over the criminals). Judges 20:8-10 explains... "And all the people arose as one man, saying, Not any of us will go to his tent, and none of us will return to his home. But now this we will do to Gibeah: we will go up by lot against it, And we will take ten men of 100 throughout all the tribes of Israel, and 100 of 1,000, and 1,000 out of 10,000, to bring provisions for the men, that when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin they may do to them according to all the [wicked] folly which they have committed in Israel." |

9 | Can unbelievers pray to God? | Prov 28:9 | james210 | 133176
Proverbs 28 9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination. Psalm 66 18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: Psalm 109 7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. Proverbs 15 8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. Proverbs 15 29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. Psalm 102 17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute, and not despise their prayer. |

10 | Jesus is God? | Matt 3:17 | james210 | 132739
Here's quite a few: "Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham was, I am." John 8:58 "I and my Father are one." John 10:30 "But if I do, though you believe not me, believe the works: that you may know and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him." John 10:38 "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak to you I speak not of myself but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works." John 14:10 "That the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one." John 17:22 "Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by him, and for him." Colossians 1:15,16 "For in him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Colossians 2:9 "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seens of angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." 1 Timothy 3:16 "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, Has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;" Hebrews 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:1-3 |

12 | God's view of Masturbation | Matt 5:28 | james210 | 132300
Often, if not everytime, lustful thoughts will accompany it. God says that lust is the same as adultery, and that we should not commit adultery. "Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matt 5:28 "Thou shalt not commit adultery." Ex 20:14 I hope this helps. |

13 | Did Mary remain a virgin? | Matt 12:47 | james210 | 132773
Although Mary was a virgin at Jesus's conception and birth (Luke 1:26-38), she could have and did have children after Jesus: "Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?" Matt 13:55 (NIV) "Someone told him, Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you." Matthew 12:47 (NIV) This was not a sin, because she was married when she had sexual relations with her own husband. This also does not mean that she wasn't a virgin when Jesus was conceived. She just had more children after Jesus. |

14 | What is the biblical def of apostle | Luke 6:13 | james210 | 133184
Luke 6 13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; Hebrews 3 1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Acts 1 25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. 26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. An apostle is a 'special messenger', especially Christ's first twelve, Paul, and Christ himself (see above). Their message was/is the Gospel. |

15 | who wrote acts? | Acts 1:1 | james210 | 132761
Scripture points to Luke as the author of acts. Here's the beginning of Luke's account of the Gospel: "It seemed good and desirable to me, [and so I have determined] also after having searched out diligently and followed all things closely and traced accurately the course from the highest to the minutest detail from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus" Luke 1:3 Here's the beginning of Acts: "IN THE former account [which I prepared], O Theophilus, I made [a continuous report] dealing with all the things which Jesus began to do and to teach" Acts 1:1 Both are written by Luke to give an account for Theophilus. |

16 | did Jesus desend to hell and preach | Acts 2:31 | james210 | 133011
Acts 2:31 (KJV): "He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption." 1 Peter 3:19: "By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;" Here, 'hell' is actually translated from the word 'Hades' (the Amplified Bible leaves it alone). Hades is the abode of the dead. Often when people think of hell they think of 'Gehenna' which is a place of torment, another word that is translated into 'hell'. Looking at the parable in Luke 16 with the rich man and Lazarus, it seems that Hades consists both of a place of torment and a place of 'paradise'. This makes sense in light of the fact that Jesus said that the thief on the cross would be with Him in paradise (Luke 23:43). In Revelation 20-21, Scripture states that Hades itself will be thrown into the Lake of Fire with all of those whose names are not written in the Book of Life. We (as born-again believers) will be bodily resurrected and rule with Christ. The 'spirits in prison' mentioned in Peter's letter could be either fallen angels or actual people waiting to be ressurected as seen in Revelation. This is probably more than you wanted to know. I've seen different views on this subject, so take it for what it's worth. Sorry if I confused you. |

17 | Who are "they" in this verse? | Acts 5:12 | james210 | 132556
It looks like 'they' refers to the apostles. The only other possibility that I see would that 'they' could be referring to the people, but it would not make sense for all the people to agree to meet together at the covered porch. Read with verse 13, this makes sense.
18 | Why is Acts 8:37 in KJV and not NIV | Acts 8:37 | james210 | 132918
Some manuscripts don't have this verse. Some versions (such as the Amplified Bible) don't leave out this verse but put a footnote noting that some manuscripts did not have this verse. Here's a good page full of articles on this topic: http://www.chick.com/information/bibleversions/ |

19 | Is James the first pope? | Acts 15:13 | james210 | 132903
I think he was just an apostle with great leadership capiblities. There's no place in Scripture that mentions popes, but the Roman Catholic Church claims that Peter was the first pope. Where this is in Scripture is yet to be seen.
20 | councils decision in acts 15 | Acts 15:24 | james210 | 132882
The apostles once again affirm that it is by God's grace we have salvation, not by being circumcised or keeping any other part of the Law: Acts 15 10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11 But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. The apostles then write a letter to a group of Gentile believers to make sure they know this (v 24): "Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment" Is this what you're asking about? |
