1 | 40 Days | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 121532
It is not just 40 days. It is the number 40 that seems to be significant. 40 days of rain, Israelites in the wilderness 40 years, 40 years of king Saul, 40 days of Jesus in the wilderness, 40 years of Christ living on earth. You will notice that after all these 40's there is deliverence or the fulfillment of promise. Noah is delivered (the rain stopped), the Israelites go into the promised land, King David begins to reign, Jesus is ministered to, we are delivered from the bondage of sin. There are many other examples. It seemsthe the number 40 is a number of deliverence. |

3 | what about a Bible study??? | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 122498
I like that idea; however if a study is started I think it should be something a little less controversial so that we can test the logistics of how to do a study in this type of forum without it falling into one big augument. And then if it works then posibly something more contraversal with certainagreed upon boundaries and guidelines.
4 | Is the word of God referred to as oil? | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 123467
I have not found any in the quick seach that I did. However that does not mean there is not one. But oil is generally a symbol of the Holy Spirit. I can follow up with lots of references to that if you want those. Is there some specific reason you are looking for this? If you could explain why you are looking for this it may be easier to help find something that would help you. God Bless |

6 | Should Women Pastor Churches or Preach | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 128076
This question has been discussed at length in other streams. Do a search on women pastors and I'm sure you'll find views from all sides of this issue. Regarding them preaching in the pulpit of any church. No one male or female whether they be a pastor or not would be allowed to preach or teach in the church I belong to unless they were well known and docternally(?) sound and of good reputation in morals and ethics. Position in the church: I would say that would be up to the particular church which ever side of the issue they fall on. New Testament: When does the NT become non applicable to today? 200AD, 600AD, 900AD, 1200AD, 1800AD, 2000AD? If one part of it is not applicable for today who is to say any of it is? |

8 | What is God's major attribute? | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 129568
Hello tgbishop: I would say that God’s major attribute is His sovereignty. It is upon this that I believe everything else rests. He will judge the nations by the standard of His holiness but it is His sovereignty that gives Him the right to judge in the first place. It is by His sovereignty that He has the right and ability to set up His holiness as the standard. Read the book of Job; it is a perfect example of the sovereignty of God and the fact that He extends mercy to who He wishes i.e Job and judges whom He wishes i.e. Job’s friends. It is by His sovereignty that He is able to say that salvation is through no other name but Jesus. It is by His sovereignty that He set all of creation in motion. We appeal to God for justice or help or strength based upon His ability to give it. We can have confidence to come to Him knowing that He can deliver us and that He desires to do so. Blessing to you Aaron |

9 | what is the cup | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 130016
Welcome to the forum Grandma Dee; In this case the cup is refering to the coming events of His arrest, trial and execution upon the cross. He knew this was the plan of God for the redemption of man. It was even for Christ a difficult thing to face this type of death yet He did so willingly as shown by His desire that the Father's will be done not His. The cup might be comparred to fate. Youv'e heard the term "the cup of life" (not refering to spiritual things) refering to things in this life that we experience. That is how I understand it. Maybe someone else on the forum can explain it better. Blessing to you Aaron |

10 | More quotable paragraph breaks for NASB? | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 131281
Hello Reighnskye; Years ago I was involve in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship at the college I attended. While there I went to a week long retreat to Catelina Island off the coast of california with them. There the particular program I was involved in was a study of the first half of the book of Mark. We spent about 5 days for 6-7 hour per day doing nothing but studying those first eight chapters. What you might be interested in was the method we used to do the study. They call it a Manuscript study. They used the NIV though but it will work with any version. They took the first eight chapters and took all the chapter breaks and verse divsion out and ran all the sentances together separated only by the punctuation which they left in. Then during the study we as a classs after reading the manuscript decided where to put paragraph breaks. We then would go through highlighting and circling repeated words or phrases then connecting the repeated words together to see how the sections of manuscript were connected. By locating repeated words we began to see what was important to the writer. It helped to discover context and the ideas the writeer wanted to get across. There were other thing we looked for as well but needless to say I was so impressed by what we discovered in the scripture that this became my primary way of studying ever since. Realise though that even using this method some paragraghs will be more than 4 verses. If you want more information you can probably contact Intervarsity Christain Fellowship and ask them about it. If you want to contact me personally about it my e-mail address is; aerberich@ev1.net Blessing to you Aaron |

11 | They were not born again at time of marr | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 131503
Hello Moey; Glory Bound is correct about the vows before God. They are still married in the sight of God. However your comments about "The Catholic church is not the true church..." has coaught my attention. Although I am not a catholic, I was raised one, I grew up in a catholic church that seemed to be dead spiritually. However since giving My life to Christ, I has since come across catholics who attend other catholic churches in my area that are very much alive spiritually. And at the same time come across protestant or non-denominational churches that are dead spiritually. My supervisor at work is a catholic and when we talk the conversation aways (by his doing) turns to Christ and worshiping Him. Emmaus who is on this forum is a catholic and has on different occasions brought a great deal of insight to questions I've had. I have come to have a great deal of respect for him. I would suggest that you reevaluate you opinion that "The Catholic church is not the true church..." In the denominational and the non-denomination churches there are bad churches, OK curches, good churches and great churches. If you have had a bad experience in one please dont judge all the rest based on that one. Aaron |

12 | Studying beyond reading | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 131609
Hello Jo; Country Girl hinted at it, but you must be at least 18 yrs. to participate on this forum. I say this not to discourage you from coming on but just so that you are aware of the rules. But besides that someone on this forum mention a Bible software site e-sword.net where you can download for free, software to use in your study. I am using it now and have been very impressed by it. If you want to dig deeper into the Bible try looking into why we Christians believe what we believe. Do some topical studies. Find out what the Bible teaches concerning: The Trinity, salvation by faith vs works, what it means to be a new creature (2 Cor 5:17), select a topic that is being discussed here on the forum and do your own study on it. Just a few suggestions Blessing to you Aaron |

14 | Cor 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope... | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 132194
Charity is the word used by the King James Version of the Bible which was writen in 1611. The original word in the manuscripts is agape. Today we translate it as love in 1611 they translated it charity. Both words refer to the same thing. The verse you are refering to about adding or deleting a word from the Bible is Rev 22:18-19 "I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book." This verse is specifically talking about changing words in this particular book i.e. the Book of Revelation not the rest of the Bible. although I believe the same applies. However in this case the word was not changed. It is still agape (love/charity) and refers to the same now as it did then. |

15 | Old testament proofs/prophesy of Christ | OT general | following him | 121551
You can start at Genesis chapter 3. It details the fall of man and also promises deliverance. In talking to the serpent God said He would put inmity between the woman and the serpent and between her seed and his. His seed will bruise her seeds heel but her seed would bruise his seed's head. This is in reference to Christ destroying Satan. But there are many others. Many are in the form of prefigurations ie prophecies acted out see Gen 22 for example.

17 | were is vese Jesus is Son of Ged | NT general Archive 1 | following him | 121664
Look at Matt 16:16. This is where simon Peter responds to Jesus' question; "Who do you say that I am?" Peter answers "You are the Christ, The Son of the Living God." Jesus tells Peter that it was God that showed that to him and warned His disciples not to tell anyone.
18 | scatter stones | Gen 1:1 | following him | 121886
It is sort of an agriculture/war issue. If you wanted to make the field of your enemy unproductive but still usable for you when you conquered him you would scatter stones throughout his fields to make them difficult to plant and therefore take away his source of food. If you wanted to completely destroy the field you would scatter salt. If you wanted to clear a field for planting you would gather the stones so you could plant. So there is a time to destroy a field and a time to create a field. The real difficulty is having discernment when to do which. It is difficult to do something that may hurt someone even when the end result brings healing or wisdom. Ex. child rearing, medical proceedures, confronting error, etc. Sometimes a hard hand is required sometimes a soft one.
19 | Gen, 1:1-3 Gap theorythe fall?? | Gen 1:1 | following him | 125711
Hello Me; I agree with Hank. The ICR web site has a great deal of information that will shed light on this subject. Although I would like to share something here about the Gen 1:1. Consider the background of the book. although some may disagree but I do believe that Moses was the author. He was leading Israel out from a nation that worshipped idols into a land where the people worshipped idols so it is not surprising that the first sentance of this book is that God created the heavens and the Earth. Not Ra or Molech, or Baal or any of the other false gods. It was their God. Elohim. this first sentance is a statement of fact not a record of earth history. |

20 | Created | Gen 1:25 | following him | 121892
Yes it is true. See Gen 1:25,26. All the creatures were created first. But man was created in God's image to rule over the creatures. We are a special creation set apart from the animals. We are the focus of God's redemption and promises. We are the ones God calls His children. Luke 3:38 "The son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God" Adam is called God's son. We may have been created last but we are the most important. In fact 1 Cor 6:3 Says that "Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?" There is so much more in the Bible to describe us as being higher than the animals. It would be difficult to show all the references without just giving you the entire Bible.
