1 | Another name for "The book of Jesus"? | Bible general Archive 2 | Taleb | 102732
Your question about "the book of Jesus" needs more info. But your "What is another name of books of Moses" - depends. There are a number of "other names" used by a number of sources. For example "Chumash", "Torah", "Pentateuch. The later is sometimes "only Moses' writings" and other times it includes the boooks of Joshua, Judges and Ruth, depending on "the publisher". 2 | What is sin? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 74253
What is sin? If you want Scriptures definition that's easy. Had you read ALL of Romans 14 (that's one I quoted from last night), you wouldn't have had to ask the question. The answer is spelled out. Romans 14:23 (and remember these words are from His Word)"Whatsoever is NOT of faith, is sin." In order to really understand Romans 14 - you have to really understand God's word. 3 | Is "mikvah" in the Law or tradition? | Bible general Archive 1 | Taleb | 77270
Searcher, I am glad to hear that you, like the Bereans did, check to see “if things are so”. The Hebrew term mikvah (spelled mikveh by some) literally and always means “gathering of water” as Strong’s states in Gen. For centuries before Christ it was a “ritual bath” that, according to “oral tradition” originates in Exodus. When the Law required “cleansing”, the initial ritual of mikvah, or mikveh, took place. Sprinkling or dipping WOULDN’T cleanse, so “completely under” they went. The priest and Levites know WHAT John the Baptist WAS doing. He was doing what had been done for centuries. They needed to know WHO he was. Had it only taken a “little” water, why did people meet him at the river? Why not by a well? A wedding, as in Rev. 19:7, “the bride has made herself ready” means she underwent the ritual of mikvah. For sure she "bathed" herself completely. Many men used, and still use, the ritual to prepare themselves for Passover, for Yom Kippur, for the Day of Atonement. Some participate before the Sabbath, every Friday. You wrote: “I didn't find where God had a person get in water. Can you cite in the OT, where God did so? I believe it was oral tradition, not the Law.” Even though there is no direct mention of mikvah in the Old Testament, the Jews STILL use the story from Exodus 19 as their basis for having a ritual bath. Right before the Ten Commandments were given to Moses, God told Moses to have the people sanctify themselves (make clean, purify) and have them “wash their garments.” Jews still believe these two "things" happened together. Strong’s 3526 sort of defines the word “wash”, “To trample with the feet”. BUT you must notice where else the word is used and that will “cancel” such a lone concept of separate “cleansing”. Psalm 51:7 “Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.” Concerning the “ancient rituals of mikvah” still in effect today, I am reminded of Col 2:17 and 2 Cor 15:46, among other portions of God’s word. Baruch ata Adonai ... Blessed art Thou, Lord our God, King of the universe. Taleb |

4 | Christmas-Is It Christian? | NT general Archive 1 | Taleb | 106776
Tess, are you forgetting “our” calendar was changed? Is that the reason you feel Jesus wasn't born in "December"? John, Jesus' cousin was conceived shortly after Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), which is on the tenth day of Tishre (our Sept- Oct.). So John would have born in Tummuz (June-July), and Jesus was born about six months later. Luke’s CHRISTMAS story spells out all the fine details. I don't believe for one second these "dates" are in Scripture just to fill Bible pages. You can - IF you honestly don't desire to acknowledge the Almighty hand of a God in full control of this universe The Jewish month Kislev corresponds with "our" Nov-Dec. It is their ninth month. Read Haggai 2:18f and discover for yourself what it says about the 24th of Kislev (sometimes spelled Chislev) (our Dec) about the foundation of the Lord's temple being laid. The Jews have continued to celebrate this activity for centuries, long BEFORE any Druids thought up any holiday for Dec. 24-25. Cross reference that to 1 Cor. 3:11 where it spells out WHO is the “temple’s” foundation - Jesus Christ. And His people are His temple. By the way - HAPPY HANUKKAH! Today is the day Jews begin their eight days celebration with their "Feasts of Dedication". They remember the miracle of not running out of oil. Around the world, the candles being lit will be accompanied by blessings and chanting the hymn rock of ages, (Maoz Tzur). Jesus Christ is MY Rock of Ages. Blessings, Taleb |

5 | Was there herding on/about December? | NT general Archive 1 | Taleb | 106875
JCrichton, like I wrote to Tess, "our" calendar was changed. December, now the 12th month, USED to be the 10th month of the Roman year, it's name actually comes from our word "decimal", like October comes from the number 8. Actually, when July and August were inserted into "our" present day calendar, all the other months moved up two. This hurried explanation might offer more questions than it answers, but here goes. The Jew's had two separate calendars. A civil one, which was the "official" one used for contracts, childbirths etc. and a sacred one, which was used to compute festivals. Every 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th, and 19th year had an extra month (called "Ve-Adar) inserted into their year". It was added right after "Adar" - their (6th civil) 12th sacred month. Realizing "how" the Jews figured the passing of their time, and how it fluctuated from year to year, meant the "10th month of their year" wouldn't necessarily be the 10th month of our present day year. Stating that "December" as such is too cold for the shepherd’s to discount “December 25” as a possible date, doesn't mean it wasn’t the 10th month of the year which Jesus was born, as I spelled out above I heartily agree with what so many others have written, and written well. In effect, they have said, celebrating Dec. 25th doesn't add or subtract from the fact that Christ Jesus came as a baby to die as a man. The light of the world WAS born. So what if it happened to be at a time when the Jews celebrated the fact that they had light for eight days without needing to replenish their oil. So what that 8 days after Jesus was born, he was brought into the temple. So what that many Jews still celebrate the fact that the installation of their temple's foundation on the 25th month of their "DECember". “Let God arise and His enemies be scattered”. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Chanukah! Taleb |

6 | Why was there fourteen sheep on ark? | Genesis | Taleb | 99593
TommyS, if you are studying about the flood, forget ANY and ALL preconceived notions that have been erroneously been peddled for years. Like what? Like, how could it have taken Noah 120 years to build the ark? God instructed Noah to build an ark for him, his wife, his three sons and their wives. Shem was the oldest son, and AFTER the flood, at the age of 100, Shem had a son. Ask any person on the street, “How many of each animal was on the ark?” And they will parrot, “Two. A male and its female.” BUZZ! WRONG! Noah's taking 14 clean, and 4 of each unclean animal did have some significance – How did Noah know anything about which was which, is significant. What was clean or unclean animals to Noah? Some claim that perhaps the clean animals were for food for Noah and his family. BUZZ! Noah and his family, and all the animals ONLY ate produce until AFTER they exited from the ark. Even after the exodus from the ark, God never gave Noah "ANY exemptions” for food (ie, clean or unclean). Gen. 9:3 “EVERY thing that moves, that is alive, IS TO BE FOOD for you. Pigs, lobster etc. And do your math, TommyS. By raining for 40 days and 40 nights, it covered the highest mountain in the world (above sea-level anyway) by 15 cubits of addition water. Really? Because water finds its OWN level, that means 15 cubits AROUND THE GLOBE. That means that there had to be 29,050 FEET of water ABOVE sea level. To get enough rain to cover that area, world wide, how hard did it have to rain? The highest average rainfall in the world today is less than 500 inches, but that takes in an entire year. For the water to cover all the earth with ONLY 40 days and nights, it HAD TO RAIN OVER 725 FEET EVERY DAY. That figures out to be SIX INCHES PER MINUTE! Anyway, there are numerous, other significant facts to be found in those few chapters of Genesis – but, it’s doubtful that you will ever find them in any Sunday School lessons. Keep studying with both eyes open, and you will continue finding answers to verses too many others "never question." :) Good job! Taleb |

7 | was abraham ever a gentile? | Genesis | Taleb | 101745
Even today, when someone "converts" to Judaism they are “proclaimed” to be the son, or daughter, of Abraham and Sarah and welcomed AS a Hebrew. The Jews accept the born into and the converted into - AS A "FULL JEW" - with NO hesitation. The reason why the converts become “children” of Abraham is because before God called Abraham TO BE the father of the Hebrews, and Sarah, the mother of the Hebrews, Abraham and Sarah were both “Gentiles”. As were ALL their forefathers. That is the reason why Jesus often mentioned things to the Jews about "their father Abraham". The premese is Abraham and Sarah WERE FIRST GENTILE and they BECAME THE FIRST Hebrews. This is the basis for how anyone of any nationality can "BECOME a Hebrew". Interestingly, the converstion is by being immerse into water three times. (Sound familiar?) Taleb |

8 | When did Abraham become a Hebrew? | Genesis | Taleb | 102364
Shalor, there are numerous Scriptures which spell out Abraham being the father of the Hebrews. How many were you looking for? As far as the premise of Abraham being "called" a Hebrew BEFORE being called of God - sorry, but I can't find any. Those verses you listed are AFTER Abram's "call to be the father of the Hebrews", if you will. Abram was FIRST called of God in Gen. 12:1 where he was intructed to leave his aging father and promised that HIS (Abram's) seed would invoke blessing upon the whole earth. Blessings, Taleb |

9 | Hebrews or to the sons of the promise? | Genesis | Taleb | 102390
Shalor, you asked: “Was it to Hebrews or was it to the sones of the Covenant? Abraham and David were the ones the promises were made to.” The first thing that popped into my mind was Galatians 3:16 – “Now the promises were MADE TO ABRAHAM AND TO HIS SEED. It does not say ‘and to seeds’, as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your seed, which is Christ’.” So, according to Scripture, the answer to your question is: Abraham and his seed – which is “Christ”, which (according to Gal. 2:29) includes anybody who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. “And if you be Christ’s, THEN you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Hope this helps, Taleb |

10 | Ever Doubt God's Existence? | Gen 3:1 | Taleb | 78175
Yes, I have. I honestly doubt if there is anybody who HASN’T either doubted God’s existence or if what He said is really true. The first Scripture that comes to mind is Gen 3. Yup, from the beginning people have “questioned God”, if you will. Satan is the father of lies and has been a liar from day one. His lies to Eve caused her to wonder if everything she KNEW was true really was true. Don’t forget she walked with God in the garden. Talk about not having any reason to doubt, but doubt she did. Growing up, my “bet” (not the right word, but…) is that you doubted a lot of things your teacher, parents, siblings told you – even though they really were true. So, while we can’t “see God” we do have seasons of doubt. Those are the times for us to take seriously what Paul wrote in 2 Cor. 10:4-5 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but MIGHTY THROUGH GOD to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exhalteth itself AGAINST the knowledge of God (YOUR SITUATION), and bringing into captivity EVERY thought to the obedience of Christ.” And don’t forget – God believes in you! Respectfully, Taleb |

11 | Who married Noah's daughters? | Gen 9:19 | Taleb | 76399
Papyrus, were you by chance thinking of Noah's sisters - Mahiah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah? If that is the case, don't forget "this" Noah was the above named sisters' sister. All five girls were the daughters of sonless Zelophehad. Talk about naming your children with Biblical names. :) Taleb |
||||||
12 | Oldest mother in Bible | Gen 17:17 | Taleb | 107656
Scripture doesn't say how old Noah's wife was, or her name. It says that Noah was 500 years old when he begat Shem, Ham and Lamech. Unless Noah "robbed the cradle", I'd say his wife was very old, wouldn't you? :) Blessings, Taleb |

13 | Why two dreams instead of one? | Gen 41:25 | Taleb | 110682
TommyS, I spotted this question earlier and was tempted to offer a possible explanation. While I'm on the keyboard, I'll go ahead. Joseph himself had two dreams before he was sold. They too meant the same thing. His brothers did bow down. God seems to have "set an example" of offering us another one of His mysteries - which those in the world can't grasp, because they don't have His Spirit. Usually, while reading Scriptures, people fail to keep the WHOLE in proper prepective. Take Revelations for example. Most are "afraid" to really tackle the wonders of that book. Like the dreams of Pharaoh, God did the same thing with Revelation. Many erroneously think that first the seals, then the angels, then the trumpets, then the vials. Wrong. Just like Pharaoh's dream - they fit together. The first trumpet and the first vial - exactly the same thing. All seven of each are the same. First trumpet "upon the earth". First vial "on the earth". Second trumpet - sea and blood. Second vial - sea and blood. etc. etc. The first seal and the first angel are one and the same. The seventh seal and the seventh angel, and each one in between, go TOGETHER as an event. God IS the same yesterday, today and forever. Blessings, Taleb |

14 | jewish calander time line for 7 feasts. | Ex 12:2 | Taleb | 98868
zil4god, first of all you have to realize that the Jewish calendar has TWO calendars. There is the civil year, with which they just celebrated their “New Years Days” Rosh Hashanah (a 2 day celebration). The civil year starts with the month called Tishre, which is “our” September and October. On the third day of the New Year is TzomGadalyah (Fast of Gedaliah). 9This 1st month (Tishri) of the “civil year” is the 7th month of the sacred year. Actually, according to the Torah, the seventh month Nisan/Abib begins their sacred calendar.) Then comes Yom Kikkur (Day of Atonement) on the 10th day. Then comes Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) on the 15th through the 21st days is a harvest festival time. Then comes Shemini Atzeret on the 22nd day. Then comes Simhat Torah on the 23rd day. Kislev is their 3rd month of the civil year. Sometimes it has 30 days in it and sometimes they have only 29 days. It is their 9th month of their sacred calendar. This coincides with our Nov and Dec. Hanakkah (which lasts for 8 days) is on the 25th of Kislev. The story of “why” etc. can be found in the books of Maccabees. Purim – the festive festival is in the Jew’s month of Adar – Tannit Ester (Feast of Easter) is the 13th and 14th day. The Pesah (Passover) – A Jewish Celebration of Liberation – is celebrated next. Nisan 15th to 22nd, Nisan takes in the last of March and first of our April. Sivan – the Feast of Weeks – is celebrated on the 6th and 7th day of Sivan (between our May and June. Blessings, Taleb |

19 | Why does Israel use occult symbolism? | 1 Kin 11:6 | Taleb | 98126
TommyS, according to my Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, the six-pointed star used by today’s Israel IS the exact same one used in Byzantine magic texts. One quote from page 507 of that same encyclopedia reads: “It is only in Jewish sources that the interlaced triangles are called ‘Shield of David’, as non-Jewish sources call the symbol the ‘Seal of Solomon.’” Solomon “adopted” it from the Egyptians, as his own occult symbol, when Solomon slid into idolatry and built an altar for Ashteroth (star). Israel Singer’s “Jewish Encyclopedia” page 458 connects Israel’s six-pointed star with the Cabala – satanic rituals and practices. “It stands to reason that the secrets of the theurgic Cabala are not lightly divulged; and yet the Testament of Solomon recently brought to light the whole system of conjuration of angels and demons by which the evil spirits were exorcised; even the magic sign or seal of King Solomon, known to the medieval Jew as the Magen David has been resurrected.” The “Jewish 44 Almanac” explains it has only been since the tenth through the fourteenth centuries that the Seal of Solomon (six-pointed star of Israel) began appearing in Jewish magical texts. Interestingly, the Rothschild family adopted that “symbol” as their coat of arms in 1822. So, while some might claim it is “innocent” – it isn’t innocent at all. No more innocent than reading one’s HORRORscope to see whether or not one should do whatever or not. To quote Julius Lester, a convert to Judaism –“They are many nationalities and tongues-atheists, agnostic, and some who practice Zen meditation and chant Buddhist mantras and sing Hindu hymns. Yet they are Jews. That is what is so confusing to others about being Jewish. It is NOT (caps mine) a belief system or even subscribing to a particular religious practice. It is belonging to a people, not only those living but also those who are not.” Sad, isn’t it. So many claim God favors such as His chosen people. But His Word declares just the opposite. Taleb |
