1 | What does Eternity in your heart mean? | Eccl 3:11 | Robert Nicholson | 149311
Dear Friends: This verse never caught my attention until I read it in NASB. "He has also set eternity in their heart" This seems like a wonderful thought. What does it mean to have eternity in your heart? Would both unbelievers and believers have eternity in their hearts? In Christ Robert Nicholson |

3 | What must I do to be Saved? | Rom 1:16 | Robert Nicholson | 75955
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth..." Romans 1:16 Is there a clear answer to a seeking sinner should they surf unto this forum? I wonder...? What is the Gospel of Christ? Paul writes to the Corinthians: "I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" (1Cor. 1:3-4) If the gospel is good news or glad tidings what is the good news found in the verses above: a) "Christ died for our sins" Who is Christ? He is the eternal Son of God or God manifest in the flesh. b) "He died" We read about calvary "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2 Cor. 5:21) c "for our sins" Our sins, this is very personal. My sins which I could not make amends, my sins which made me dead to God and my sins which would plunge my soul into a lost eternity. The good news is that someone took my place, he was my substitute, he suffered untold agony as he "was made sin for us (me)" "he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures" Why is this part of the gospel so important? In his resurrection our Lord Jesus Christ proclaims to all that he is whom he claimed to be. To us who are saved his resurrection is the foundation to our faith, because he lives we live, because he lives, he will keep us and because he lives he is coming for us one day. |

4 | Should not perish or shall not perish? | John 3:16 | Robert Nicholson | 75653
Disciplerami: Please consider the following: For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life." (John 3:16) amplified In your last post to me you indicated that my KJV rendering "should not perish" suggested some doubt. In the KJV "we read should not perish, but have everlasting life" Since we are told we have everlasting life than we shall not perish. I believe the amplified version makes this very plain. You also suggested that based on John 12:42 that some believed and lost it because of other cares. I do not believe this is what this verse is suggesting. In fact we have Nicodemus who came to Jesus by night who was a secret disciple who was used of God and mentioned at the buriel of the Lord Jesus. I do not believe we have a clear biblical example of a person who was born again who lost their soul's salvation. We must also remember there is believing and there is believing. There are those who believe about Jesus, who would see him as a good man who lived and died, but they do not know him as their Savior. On the other hand there are those who have believed by placing their total trust in his sacrifice on the cross for them. Their heart is changed, as they are given new life within by the Holy Spirit as they rejoice in a living and glorified Savior. |

5 | Can we be uncreated? | 2 Cor 5:17 | Robert Nicholson | 75649
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." I quote the words of C.H. Spurgeon "I am an old creature by nature; God creates me into a new thing, he makes me a new creature. I cannot go back into an old creature, for I cannot be uncreated." |

7 | Is the Work of Christ Sufficient? | Rom 6:23 | Robert Nicholson | 68250
Dear friends: I have posted the following statement several times and feel that new Christians should understand what Christ has done for them. "Our security is anchored in the worth and work of our Lord Jesus Christ who paid the ultimate price for our redemption. The eternal life which is ours when we trust him is a gift which is given to us the moment we rest in the finished work of Christ by faith. (Romans 6:23) In Eph 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works lest any man should boast" God's word does not support faith in the work of Christ plus the works of man equals salvation. In fact to add works is an insult to the work of Christ which he purchased with his own precious blood. Robert |

8 | Why Should we not Praise him? | 1 Pet 3:18 | Robert Nicholson | 68193
Dear fellow believers: This verse causes me to praise God "For Christ [the Messiah Himself] died for sins once for all, the Righteous for the unrighteous (the Just for the unjust, the Innocent for the guilty), that He might bring us to God. In His human body He was put to death, but He was made alive in the spirit," (1Peter 3:18) Substitution! To think that he Son of God was willing to take my place in the cross and to bear in his own body our sins is a truth beyond comprehension. He was the one who was without sin, who knew no sin and did no sin; and yet made sin for us that we might be the rigtheousness of God through him "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2 Cor. 5:21) Imagine, lost guilty, hell bound sinners, clothed in his righteousness for all eternity. Why should we not praise him for he is worthy? Robert |

9 | Take Up Our Cross: What does it mean? | Luke 9:23 | Robert Nicholson | 67218
Dear fellow believers: What does it mean to "take up our cross daily and follow Christ?" What is our cross? Jesus said in John chp. 10 " My sheep hear my voice and I know them , and they follow me" (John 10::27) What a beautiful picture of the Christian who has entered by the door which is Christ who said "I am the door by me if any man enter in he shall be saved" (John 10:9) The characteristics of those who know him as Saviour are a) they hear his voice b) He knows them. c) They follow him What does this really mean? "They follow him?" If we follow him we will deny ourselves and take up our cross daily and follow him" (Luke 9:23) "we hear his voice" Thank God that by his Spirit and through his word he spoke to us when we were lost in sin and he revealled to us that "Christ died for our sins!" I challenge myself, do I hear his voice daily? Do I respond to his voice? Some have suggested that the cares of life and the trials that comes into our life are our cross. I wonder if this is what it means? The Lord Jesus tells us "for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." (Matt.5:45) In other words many things in life which are challenging are experienced by the all people, not just Christians. The imagery that Jesus is using here refers to those who would be crucified by the Romans. The soldiers would make you drag your cross to the place of death, it was a one way trip. How does this apply to Christian life in a spiritual sense and in a practical sense in our daily lives. These questions are not intended to rhetorical questions, but questions which have been challenging me. "Forbid it Lord that I should boast, Save in the cross of Christ, my God; All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his blood. Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were an offering far too small; Love so amazing so divine, Demands my heart, my life, my all! (Isaac Watts 1674-1748) Blessings in his precious name Robert |

10 | How were you drawn to Christ? | Hos 11:4 | Robert Nicholson | 66348
In this chapter of Hosea we read of God's love for faithless Israel. He speaks of calling they out of Eygpt. This calling out of Eygpt also applies to the Lord Jesus Matt.2:15 Even though God loves them and longs for their good and restoration, they continue in the idolitry of Baalim. In verse 4 "I drew them with the cords of a man, and with the bands of love" In other words despite their unfaithfulness God continues to work with them to draw them and to love them. I would like to apply this to humankind as we know them today. God loves us (John 3:16) and he longs our salvation (1 John 3:1) In fact with cords and with bands of love he draws us to him. "I found a friend O such a friend He loved me ere I knew him He drew me with the cords of love And thus he bound me to him." According to Romans 3:11 "There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God" What a bleak picture! What grace and what love to think that even when our backs are against him and our hearts hardened against his calls, he continues to love us and to bring about circumstances in our life experience which would draw us to him. How were you drawn to Christ? |

12 | Condemned Already: from birth? | John 3:18 | Robert Nicholson | 63585
Condemned already! Convicted! This is the condition of all who have not trusted Christ or rested up the fact that Christ bore the judgment for our sins. I find that there are many who believe that they are Christians and yet would not agree that they were condemned already. I was asked this question "What if you have always believed? What if you were never lost? I believe that it is important for people travelling to eternity to know for sure of their standing before God. What a tradgey to walk the clean foot path of life and miss Christ altogether! Do you not think that if we take our place as "condemned already" that we in fact are acknowledging our need to God? It is difficult for good living people to see themselves as God sees them: as condemned before him. Is it not a lie of satan to rock people to sleep in thinking they will be safe because of their good life and their perceived belief of Christ. What do you think about being "Condemned" in the law courts of God? May God open our eyes to the truth of his Holy word. Robert |

13 | Do Christians need to be Loosed? | John 11:44 | Robert Nicholson | 57295
I was musing on the things which bind us as Christians and prevent us from becoming all that God wants us to be. I was thinking of John 11 and the raising of Lazarus from the dead. The thoughts I am giving are in application. Lazarus is dead V.14, in a tomb and stinking. Does this not remind us of our natural state before we met Christ? Dead in sin, bond by sin and in our sin a stinking odor before God. The Lord Jesus loved Lazarus and knew of his state. Likewise, we were loved by God even when we were enemies against him and he knew us through and through. The Lord Jesus came to the tomb or came to where he was. Would this not remind us of our saviour who left the glories of heaven and came into this world to save sinners. We could not go to him, but he came to us. The one who is the resurrection and the life called the dead man by name in a loud voice. V43 Would not this reminds us of the Grace of God who spoke the words of life to us through his Spirit? The power of Christ is seen as "he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes and his face bound about with a napkin" This reminds me of those whom Christ gives new life. They are born again and yet there may be things which will affect their ability to do (the hands) or to move (the feet) or to see (the face) The command of the Lord Jesus was "Loose him, and let him go"V44 The Lord Jesus wants us to be free from the things of our old life which can bind us. In the case of Lazarus he needed help from others. Would this suggest that in our Christian walk that if we are exercised before God that he may use other brothers and sisters to assist us to be loosed? What are the things we need to be loosed from? 14 | Eternal Life: A Free Gift? | John 3:36 | Robert Nicholson | 54733
To all: Is eternal life a gift from God which is given freely to those who trust Christ as Savior and Lord? I would like to examine the truth of John 3:36. On this forum I have heard some refer to the NASB version which reads: "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." John 3:36 I would like to compare it to the King James Version which reads: "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." John 3:36 The difference I have noted in interpretation falls on the middle part of the verse: The 12 translations of the Bible which I have access to break down the following way. a) He that believeth and he that believeth not is found. NIV, KJV, NKJV, KJ21, WE, YLT, AMP. b) He that believeth and he that obeys not is found in the NASB, AMP, NLT, ASV, JD, One might ask why is this distinction important? I have found that some use the verse the following way: " He that believeth in the Son hath everlasting life. No disagreement here "But he who does not obey the Son shall not see life" This is the section where I see a significant problem at times. I have heard some express that the meaning of this verse is: If we believe on the Son we have everlasting life, however, if we do not obey the son by keeping his commandments than we are in danger of losing our eternal life and coming under the judgement of God. I disagree with this intrepretation for the following reasons: 1. Context. The Lord Jesus began this subject in the early part of John 3 What did he teach? a) His reason for coming into the world. V.17 "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." b) That unbelievers are condemned already. "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God" V.18 Thus, in the light of the words of the Lord Jesus we can understand what John the Baptist is saying in Verse 36: That there are those who have trusted Christ and they have eternal life in contrast to those who have not believed on the Son or have not obeyed the Gospel and as such they have not life and the wrath of God hovers over them. Jesus repeats the same truth in John 5:24. John in 1 John 5:12 repeats the same truth "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son hath no life" I believe the Amplified translation shows us that both renderings mean the same thing. We either have eternal life or we do not have eternal life based on our attitude towards the claims of Christ. I love the words of an old gospel song: "Eternal life's in the question And joy through eternity Oh what will you do with Jesus? What will your answer be. Robert |

15 | Eternal Security is it possible? | 2 Tim 1:12 | Robert Nicholson | 54069
Eternal Security reflects God's ability to save us first of all and to keep us for eternity. Paul could say with a note of triumph: "I know whom I have believed" Paul does not cite his own personal faithfulness as the reason he feels secure; No! rather he focuses on "I have believed" A statement was made on another post "that only the faithful go to heaven" this suggesting that those who have believed could through their own unfaithfulness somehow be denied the eternal promise of the living Christ "I give unto them eternal life and they shall never Perish" John 10 Peter reminds us "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot" ( 1 Peter 1:18-19) Redeemed ! how I love to proclaim it. Only those who are redeemed will be in heaven. We were sold under sin, we were sinners by birth, by practice and by choice. We could not free ourselves from sin except through the precious blood of Christ. The work was absolutely his; nothing I could do before I was saved or after I am saved could contribute in any way to the work which Christ accomplished on the cross. Three words from the cross from our saviour summerized it all "It is Finished!" A lamb without blemish would remind us of his purity when he came into this world. Without spot reminds of the life which he lived before his father and humankind, a perfect life with no sin. This was the one who paid the debt that was required to redeem us. He satisfied God by his sacrifice and when we place our faith in him we are forgiven and we are set free. Eternal security, does it exist? Absolutely it rests upon the work of Christ and his promises regarding those who will accept his work as the only way to be saved. He is the keeper of our souls. To suggest that we can lose such a gift is an insult to God himself. Fellow Christain rejoice that your sins are forgiven. Robert |

19 | What about those who have never heard? | Rom 1:16 | Robert Nicholson | 39414
Dear brother John: Your question "What about those who have never heard?" As you have indicated this question is often posed. I have used the words of Abraham as he anticipated the impending doom upon Sodom, he could say "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" ( Gen. 18:25) This of course would cause us to leave some things which we do not fully understand in his righteous care. Nevertheless, we know that Jesus is the only way to heaven regardless of our background. We also know that the Lord Jesus Christ himself is coming "in flaming fire taking vengance on them that know not God and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ" ( 2 Thess. 1:8) In short, there is only one way to heaven and that is to obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. This obedience begins the moment we are placed in him by faith in his finished work. Conversely, those who have rejected the gospel are accountable and will be judged. What about those who have never disobedyed the gospel? Viewing this from a dispensational view, I have a few suggestions: Today, according to Eph. 3:2 live in the good of the dispensation of grace and all humans on earth regardless of nationality and as individuals can have their sins forgiven through Christ and have a personal relationship with him forever. When Christ comes 1 Thess 4:16 those who have been redeemed will be caught up to meet him in the air. It is then that the time of the great tribulation begins. It is also a time when God turns to Israel nationally and by his grace saves a remant to his glory. For those who have rejected the gospel during the day of grace there will be not second chance, they will believe the lie of the wicked one who will be revealled. What has this got to do with those who have not heard? In Rev. 7 we read of the remnant out of Israel saved or sealed v. 4-8. Remarkedly, in v. 9 we read of "a great multitude which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people and tongues stood before the throne..." Who are these people who are given white robes? "these are they which came out of the great tribulation and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the lamb" V14 This multitude of people do not appear to be Israel or the church who is with Christ. Is it possible that these are those who have never heard during the day of grace, but in the time of tribulation God has reached them by his grace and saved many? I would be interested in your thougts Robert |
