1 | Two House Teaching--T or F? | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 166986
Two House Teaching--T or F? [Defined below is the "Two House Teaching" or "Two House Movement". Do you agree or disagree with this teaching? Why or why not? I'm not testing anyone with this question. I really want to know; what do you all believe about this subject? --Kalos] 'The "Two House Movement" claims that many Gentile Christians, especially in Western Europe and America, are in reality descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of the Northern Kingdom of Israel (the house of Israel), and that now is the prophesied time for them to accept their true identity and join together with their brothers the Jews (the house of Judah) through observance of the Law of Moses, and in this way to bring the Jews to belief in Messiah Jesus. This teaching has several features in common with Anglo-Israelism, which is considered a cult by most Christian groups. '...the real issue here, and what separates the two house teaching from other Christian groups, is their conviction that Gentile Christians (or what they prefer to call Ephraimites or Israelites) are required to obey the Law of Moses in some way.' 2 | Comparing versions to the literal Greek | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 181368
I wonder, when people say there are places in the ESV where they are disappointed in the translation, are they comparing the ESV to the NASB? Or are they comparing both the ESV and NASB to the literal translation of the Greek and Hebrew words? [Disclaimer: In this Question it is not my intention to start a translation debate. Nor am I saying here that one of these two versions is better than the other.] Grace to you, John |

6 | "Did I say that?" --B. Goldwater | Bible general Archive 2 | kalos | 111947
"Did I do that?" -- S. Urkel To EdB, Hank, and others: Please note that neither the Question nor my Answer was primarily about Isaiah 7:14. My answer was about certain principles of translation. Isaiah 7:14 is merely an example. My original Answer is not about which translation of that verse is the right one. Frankly, my dears, I don't care which version of Isa 7:14 is the right one. That was never my point. I posted an Answer about principles of translation and got a debate over Isa 7:14. To balance things, I guess I should post a Note about Isa 7:14. Hopefully, I would then get a discussion about principles of translation. I admit that I made a mistake. My mistake was to make any reference to Isa 7:14, which was used as an EXAMPLE, not as the main point of my post. I should have known that my mention of Isa 7:14 would trigger controversy and that as soon as people saw the verse in Isaiah, they would forget what the post was really about, just as quickly as snow melts when it hits warm pavement. Silly me! Color me Sorrowful (kalos) |

7 | Where in Acts do you find INDIVIDUALS... | Bible general Archive 2 | kalos | 114808
If Acts is a blueprint for all church history, where in the Book of Acts does one find INDIVIDUALS SEEKING for the Holy Spirit and EXPECTING TO RECEIVE TONGUES as the sign that He's come? This is a SPECIFIC question that calls for a SPECIFIC answer. Cite the chapter and verse in Acts where one finds INDIVIDUALS SEEKING for the Holy Spirit and EXPECTING TO RECEIVE TONGUES as the sign that He's come. If an answer to this question does not include chapter and verse, then the question has not been answered. [DO077-1] |

9 | Borrowed money-neither income nor asset | Bible general Archive 2 | kalos | 125749
Borrowed money-neither income nor asset MARK LYNN: You write: "i believe we should pay tithe on any money that comes to us even if borrowed." May I ask: How did you come to that conclusion? Borrowed money is neither income nor asset. We are not required to pay income tax on borrowed money because it is not income. It is not an asset because it does not increase our net worth. Instead, it is a liability. The reason it is a liability is that we have to PAY IT BACK. The fact is we are not required to pay tithes on our liabilities. Grace to you, kalos |

10 | Which one are we not going to keep? | Bible general Archive 2 | kalos | 125857
Which one are we not going to keep? Overall I agree with Got it!!! He writes: "I figure that if He came to fulfill it, then we should too." I agree. But then he goes on to say, "Not by observing the letter of the law..." Not by observing the letter of the law? Nine of the Ten Commandments are repeated in the New Testament. Just which one of those nine were we planning on NOT keeping the letter of? |

11 | Where does the Bible SAY that? | Bible general Archive 2 | kalos | 125980
Country Girl: You ask: "what WAS to be accomplished and do away with the Law and the Prophets?" I ask you: Where in the Bible does it SAY that something (or anything) will do away with the Law and the Prophets? Jesus Himself said in Matthew 5:17 (ESV), "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them...". ("but to fulfill them". Obviously, fulfill does not mean abolish. If it did, then Jesus would have been saying, "I have not come to abolish, but to abolish.) Grace to you, kalos |

12 | Why ask Why? Why ask Where? | Bible general Archive 2 | kalos | 126100
Why ask Why? Why ask Where? Tim: Why do you annoy users with questions about pesky details, such as "Where is the Scripture that makes this statement?" Didn't you know that this is the Freewill, Freethinking, Freewheeling Forum? At least, that is my perception of it. From my reading of the majority of posts, I thought this was the Op/Ed page of the NY Times. Now we have to back up our opinions with Scripture? How unfair! With tongue in cheek, kalos |

13 | Born Again Christians - Why so weird? | Bible general Archive 2 | kalos | 126797
Born Again Christians - Why so weird? Here at the forum if you would read 100 posts at random, you would see why people who call themselves Christians are perceived as they are by the world. You will see attitudes that give Christianity a bad name. How do they offend? Let me count the ways: Arrogance, ignorance, taking pride in ignorance, negativeness, smugness, defiance against authority, intolerance toward those who disagree, zeal without knowledge, tactlessness, authoritarian attitudes...and the list goes on and on and on. (A definition of a fanatic - one who, having lost sight of his goals, redoubles his efforts.) I'm not saying that all, or even a majority of, professing Christians are like this. I'm merely saying the common perception of Christians as arrogant, ignorant, intolerant, etc. is well-deserved by many professing Christians. Grace to you, kalos |
