We had an excellent sermon today - here are some questions. Why did Samuel send his sons to judge in Beersheba? |

They would have been his 'heirs', to follow in his ways and take his place when he would be gone... It is possible that he placed a 'higher' trust on his sons than anyone else, and that his sons would be more apt to follow his teaching and example than anyone else. He would also have a certain measure of control over his sons (if they were to get 'out of hand') since they were in fact his sons. However, the same scenario that happened with Eli's sons would happen with Samuel's: they would pervert their authority and use it for their own gain.
3 | Why to judge in Beersheba? | 1 Sam 8:2 | Searcher56 | 12056
Beersheba is the southern most post. He may of wanted them out of the way. I wonder if he was looking for a man to followed his ways.
4 | Why to judge in Beersheba? | 1 Sam 8:2 | Makarios | 12059
That is possible, but I really wonder if that is likely in this situation since Samuel could have given them something different to do (other than judging) if he really wanted his sons out of the way ("foreseeing" their corruption).. I do not believe that Samuel would have made them judges if he knew beforehand that they would have been 'bad choices.'
