Do we know what the word "know" ment in Hebrew at this time?
2 | Know the lord? | 1 Sam 3:7 | Mommapbs | 141264
Greetings br2rns! The Hebrew word used in this verse is yada. It is also used in Gen 4:1 - Adam had relations (knew) his wife . . . this knowing is suggestive of intimacy; we might consider from this usage that knowing God refers to a spiritual intimacy. Most people know about God, but lack a relationship with Him. Samuel did not YET know the Lord. The word usage here suggests that knowing the Lord would take place. Again, the word yet is used in conjunction with God revealing Himself. We have no excuse - for not only does God want to be known, He reveals Himself to us (Romans 1) Note that it was the Lord who called Samuel (no one seeks after God on their own but it is God who seeks us!) God reveals Himself. Nothing has changed since this encounter and each of us has a choice to respond to the call of the Lord as Samuel did (Speak for your servant listens v 10)or we can go back to bed. From this I learn that God desires relationship with us and He reveals Himself to us in order to facilitate our response. God wants to be known, not just known about . . . God desires intimacy with us. How about you, do you "know" the Lord? Is your relationship with Him "intimate?" Blessings, mommapbs |

Hi Mommapbs, Excellent message. Be sure to add it to your material for a devotional publication. 1 Samuel 3:21, "And the Lord appeared again at Shiloh, because the Lord revealed **Himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the *Lord." Knowing God refers to spiritual intimacy and it comes about through the spiritual word of the Lord and the (h)Holy (s)Spirit. Romans 1:3, "concerning **His *Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh, 4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the (s)Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our (Lord),..." Romans 1:22, "Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible (God) for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures." Romans 1:17, "For in it [the gospel, v.16] the righteousness of (God) is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH"." Knowing the (Lord) is an excellent study to my mind. See John 10:14 and 14:7 and 18:37. From the heart, Ray |

Ray - what prompted you to suggest a devotional publication? For many years and from many sources I have known that God intends for me to write - to date I have quite a large collection of "devotional writings" ready for an editor's pen. . . . perhaps God will open a door sometime soon (or maybe when I'm taken home - who cares! It's all about Him anyway!) I will add this particular post to my collection! Thanks for the additional Scriptures and the encouragement! Blessings, mommapbs |
