1 | Where the priest impatient and greedy? | 1 Sam 2:13 | remorse2 | 206092 | ||
Does anyone out there know if God told Aaron or his sons that they could poke a fork in the pot that was cooking the sacrifice? Asked another way: in 1 Sam 2:13-14 seems to me to be an odd behavior. Was what they were doing a specific instruction given by God to the priest's servants when God gave His instructions regarding sacrifice and the portion for Aaron's sons? Lev 6:28-29 supports the behavior of eating the meat that was prepared but the habit of sticking the fork in seems a little greedy and impatient to me. I am not questioning thier priveledge of eating the meat. It was theirs to eat. I am questioning the method of obtaining the meat. I also know that the behavior of Levi's sons (vs 15-17)taking the meat before the fat was burned off was wrong. But the way it is written implys that this was an established habit maybe before Eli's sons ever showed up. |

Shalom remorse2 Verse 12 of that chapter tells you that they (Eli's sons) were corrupt and did not know the Lord. I don't think that their procedure was customary, that is why the worshippers would object (as in verse 16). My 2cents worth Cheri |

Thanks Cheri, Your 2 cents are appreciated. Verse 13 says it was the custom of the priest. Therefore it was customary. I don't think the procedure of poking a fork in a pot of sacrificial meat is inspired by God. God gave a procedure for the entire sacrificial process in Leviticus. It is quite long and detailed. That is why I need the help. Maybe I missed a section in the procedure that allows the priest or his helper to poke a fork in the pot of sacrificial meat. Albert |

Shalom Albert, I noticed that you got some other answers, more detailed than mine, especially from Val, that hit the nail on the head. The fat belonged to God. I don't think you missed anything in the Torah's directions. These particular priests were just not God's ideal. They were out for their own, and phooy on everything else including God's directions.
