1 | Was this really Samuel's spirit? | 1 Sam 28:11 | azurelaw | 201839
Dear budderfligh, Matthew Henry's commentary: ...God permitted the devil, to answer the design, to put on Samuel's shape, that those who would not receive the love of the truth might be given up to strong delusions and believe a lie. 2 | Was this really Samuel's spirit? | 1 Sam 28:11 | Val | 201923
Correction, the devil is no where mentioned in this passage. As gvgriffin has answered the Lord allowed Samuel to speak to Saul one last time. We must always put scripture above commentary no matter how beloved our commentaries are to us.
3 | Was this really Samuel's spirit? | 1 Sam 28:11 | azurelaw | 201924
Dear Sister Val, Thank you for the note. You are right and I agree with the approach on interpreting scriptures, for sure. I have checked again v13 that it said "a spirit" (NIV), "gods" (KJV), "a divine" (NASB) and even the AMP version "a god [terrifying superhuman being]" that does not clearly indicate it a devil. However, neither did the scripture say the Lord allowed Samuel to speak to Saul one last time as gvgriffin had put it. Did I miss anything? Good to have your feedback. Shalom Azure |
