1 | Please clarify Samuel 18:10. | 1 Sam 18:10 | geezyweezy | 20903
In 1 Samuel 18:10 - the NIV bible refers to an "evil spirit from God." I asked my pastor about this, and he said in some translations of the bible, it is referred to as an injurious spirit from God. I was really disturbed by this verse. Is it possible that anything of God could be evil? I wish I understood Hebrew fluently so I could understand the true meaning of this verse. I understand that God sometimes used angels to administer punishment, to fight battles, and to deliver messages. Is it possible that he also used them to torment people on earth? |

2 | Please clarify Samuel 18:10. | 1 Sam 18:10 | prayon | 20904
If you refer back to 1 Sam 16:14 it gives a little bit of an idea. The Life Application Bible Commentary reads as thus: What was this spirit the Lord sent? Perhaps Saul was simply depressed. Or perhaps the Holy Spirit had left Saul and God allowed an evil spirit to torment him as judgement for his disobedience, (this would demonstrate God's power over the spirit world, 1Kings 22:19-23). Either way Saul was driven to insanity, which led him to attempt to murder David. prayon
