There are a number of examples in Scripture where "boy meets girl," [See the second chapter of Ruth] but none specificially relating to the custom we call "dating." Since the day when God said, "A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh," [Gen.2:24], there have been various ways devised to accomplish this, and apparently they have all been more or less successful. Having dated my wife for a few months that led to a wonderful marriage that has lasted nearly 44 years, produced three fine children and three beautiful grand-children, I'm rather in favor of dating and inclined to believe that it does indeed occupy a place of enormous importance in our lives. :-) It is vitally important that a young man and woman get to know one another intimately before marriage -- not in a sexual sense by any means, but in a spiritual and social sense -- and to be able to share their beliefs and value systems, as well as their hopes, dreams and ambitions for the future. Dating, which affords them an opportunity to do this, is very important. --Hank | ||||||
