Bible Question: Is there anything in the Bible about dating? Any type of Scripture that translates to dating? And if not, then is dating even important in everyday life? |
Bible Answer: No, dating is not mentioned in the Bible. [DISCLAIMER: the following is MY subjective answer. I do not present it as Bible doctrine or church dogma. Keep in mind that dating is a modern social custom. I am not taking a rigid stand, merely expressing my opinion, which I am labeling as opinion.] Also, let me make it clear that I am not here discussing "a date" in isolation. Nor am I talking about what people do on "a date." I am talking more about dating relationships than I am a date here and a date there. I haven't a thing against Christians dating according to Christian principles. What I seriously question is the entire body of dating culture and customs as the world understands and practices them, especially the world's questionable practice (from the biblical viewpoint) of an excessive number of serial or multiple dating partners before marriage. Is this REALLY proper or adequate preparation for "Christian" marriage? I am not entirely against dating. But I seriously question the suitability for Christians of the dating "game" as played by the world. I don't believe God called us to play shopping games with relationships. For thousands of years there was no dating culture. Dating is a VERY, VERY recent custom in the history of mankind. |
