1 | A certain way to drink-why? | Judg 7:5 | stjohn | 195710
Dear Brain I'm in agreement with Doc, he has given good advice on this mater. By the way, you may want to read the next verses! Judg 7:6 Now the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was 300 men; but all the rest of the people kneeled to drink water. 7 The LORD said to Gideon, "I will deliver you with the 300 men who lapped and will give the Midianites into your hands; so let all the other people go, each man to his home." Scripture clearly says, that it was those who lapped the water were chosen, not as you have stated, so the criteria you gave for God's choosing the men, seems a bit convoluted, as it is opposite of what scripture acutely says. I guess that kind of logic works both ways? Sometimes we hear explanations that sound good, but really have no bases in scripture. God bless John |

2 | A certain way to drink-why? | Judg 7:5 | Brian.g | 195736
John I believe that I may have contributed to your confusion in misunderstanding what I had written, by using the term 'lapped', which was used in Scripture to describe both the 9700 soldiers (Judges 7:5) and the 300 soldiers (Judge 7:6). It would have been better had I termed it as 9,700 soldiers who 'laps the water with his tongue like a dog' were the complacent ones. While, the 300 who drank by 'putting their hand to their mouth' were the more committed and vigilant soldiers. Sorry to confuse you. Brian |

3 | A certain way to drink-why? | Judg 7:5 | stjohn | 195744
Dear Brian, Sorry, but, you still maybe have it confused. like I suggested in my previous post read the verses please. Where does it say, that the 9,700 lapped to drink? Judg 7:5 So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, "You shall separate everyone who laps the water with his tongue as a dog laps, as well as everyone who kneels to drink." 6 Now the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was 300 men; but all the rest of the people kneeled to drink water. Lapped or laps, It makes no difference, the 9,700 were NEVER described as lapping water, thereby making them, somehow, complacent. In fact it only says that the 9,700 kneeled, there is no other description of how they drank. Notwithstanding, There is no scriptural support for that theory. And again, brother Doc has given you very good advice, may I encourage you, Brian, to read and study the scriptures, and not follow teachings just because they may sound or look, good. Stand on the Word of God my friend, not on the theories of unschooled theologians. God bless John |
