1 | A certain way to drink-why? | Judg 7:5 | stjohn | 195710 | ||
Dear Brain I'm in agreement with Doc, he has given good advice on this mater. By the way, you may want to read the next verses! Judg 7:6 Now the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was 300 men; but all the rest of the people kneeled to drink water. 7 The LORD said to Gideon, "I will deliver you with the 300 men who lapped and will give the Midianites into your hands; so let all the other people go, each man to his home." Scripture clearly says, that it was those who lapped the water were chosen, not as you have stated, so the criteria you gave for God's choosing the men, seems a bit convoluted, as it is opposite of what scripture acutely says. I guess that kind of logic works both ways? Sometimes we hear explanations that sound good, but really have no bases in scripture. God bless John |

Dear novelist, We depend on the Holy Spirit for illumination of the truth. However, the Holy Spirit will never render significance of a passage outside of sound principles of interpretation. For a set of guidelines to that end , please see the thread in post #156916 -- enter that number in the search box to the right of your screen. We have received revelation from the Lord in a verbal form. As we consider the genre of a passage (narrative, poetry, etc.) there are specific ways to rightly understand them. We are repeatedly warned in Scripture not to pull things from it that are not intended, nor to neglect all the things that are intended. In Him, Doc |
