Tyboswell, I think you have stated your question clearly. And our mission on earth has been stated w/equal clarity as well. We have been called the salt of the earth, (Mat 5:13) and in (5:14) the light of the world. And further, our Lord urges us on: What I tell you in darkness, speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, preach ye upon the housetops. (Mat 10:27) And Luke re-iterates to us, For so hath the Lord commanded us, [saying], I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. (Acts 13:47) My prayer is that you will be empowered to shine as light in this dark world into which we have been born. Now, ministering to homosexuals is such a broad scope of commentary, yet it is hard to carry on meaningful dialogue without projecting a feeling of superiority, or the other person even feeling belittled or attacked. This, because it is hard to find points within this subject upon which both sides are in agreement, and besides, what fellowship does darkness have with light? One tact that I have been trying to formulate in a non-threatening way is the fact that homosexuality in no way can be natural, The person, male or female could not possibly have been born that way, because God created man and woman for the propagation of the human species. So therefore, since there can be no offspring from the joining together of homosexuals, this would eventually lead to the end of our species. |

I personally think you would lose someone with that aproach. I believe that the best approach is to talk to them and not at them. A debate will not get you anywhere. Just sow a seed into their salvation. Invite them to worship and to hear a word from God. Let the spirit do the rest. If they have questions later on then you teach and refer them to scripture. A truly loving apprroach works best.

I think it is hard to lose someone who is already lost. I would be talking to them and with them, not necessarily at them, you cannot debate with the truth so they will be at a loss. I agree that a loving approach is best but if you tell them what the actual truth is, they will be unable to stand against it, and light will penetrate the darkness of their thinking. This is the loving appraoch, done in kindness. The unloving approach would be to ignore them and let them plow their way into destruction |

This answer is also correct in other situations; such as prostitutes, criminals, and other people only Jesus could love.

You are SO right Miranda, Thank-You. Of course, Not only Jesus loves them, but their mothers, spouses, etc. but your point is well taken. Give me an ex-addict, ex-alcoholic or an ex-anything any day of the year to help me with my problems in daily living. These are people who know more about what is important in life than one who has never had thoughts that they might be trapped at the bottom rung on the ladder of their life. They may not make the best accountants, or engineers or what have you, but God puts professional people in their careers for a purpose as well. Not everyone is an actuarist, nor was meant to be. I can get more sincere empathy from a brother or sister that knows the seemier side of life and was wise enough to turn away than from many clean-cut people that have substantial standings in society. I think the society do-gooder feels he has something to lose, where the ex-prostitute or reformed criminal (so to speak) has a much better perspective on what is important to keep. Again, your post is one of the best spoken I have ever read, I wish I could be so perspectful. |
