After 24 years of marriage, I divorced my husband because I thought I could find a better life. I had left him 3 times before finally ending it in divorce. When I asked him for the last time if he was willing to change some things in our marriage, he said "you know me, I will never change". He told me everything would be alright as long as I listened to him. He never apologized to me in the 24 years we were married. I told him I was sorry for things that I said but I never got this back from him. I divorced 17 years ago. Since then I and my former husband have remarried and he must have changed because he is happily married. I, on the other hand, am tormented every day. I would like to reunite with my former husband but I can't call him because his new wife is always there. I would like to make myself right with the Lord. Can you please suggest what I can do? I want both of us to be eternally saved and I read in the Bible that God only allows divorce if your spouse commits adultery. Neither of us were guilty of this. |

I believe that this is sin that God forgives and you should to at this point in your life it sounds like you should move on having asked God for forgiveness for that part of your life but at that point leave it with him dont pick it up to rehash over and over. from this day forward is what counts so make this day right with him and then each day thereafter. God loves you and knows we have faults. after all he did make us so he knows us inside and out. Thank him for his grace and mercy and move on.

I am having a hard time believing that God could forgive me because the Bible says God hates divorce. I wish I could go back and relive my life and right my wrongs. I was brought up as a Catholic and it's so hard for me to believe that God would forgive me.

Ma'am, The Scripture says that God hates idolaters, the wicked, false prophets, the proud, liars, murderers, gossipers, mischief makers, oath breakers, malicious planners, false teachers, etc. etc. If God refused to save those who committed such things, then He would be refusing to save us all. We all have abounded in these sins. But God laid all these sins on Christ. Ma'am, forgiveness is not about what you have done, it is about what God has done. You have recognized it as sin, so confess it to the Lord in prayer, and He will cleanse you. You have purposed to live righteously from now on. You cannot change the past. It is inappropriate to contact your former husband, simply allow Him to be a husband to his wife. You need to find a church where the whole Biblical truth is taught. There you will find other believers who are living through the very kinds of things you are living through. I think that you can find such a church, close to you, in the following list: http://www.founders.org/misc/chlist/index_up.html Believers are called to walk together with the Lord. In Him, Doc |
