Hi, Jimbob... Welcome to the forum! The Bible does not sanction one form of dealing with dead bodies over another. Thus, it neither proscribes nor advocates cremation as opposed to burial. However, given that cremation was most frequently associated with heathen cultures, and given that the most common means recorded in Scripture was burial, my tendency would be encourage the latter. Obviously, regardless of the disposition of the body, all people will live again in the resurrection (Revelation 21). A respectful treatment of the body -- in life and in death -- ought to be a guiding principle for believers. In Him, Doc |

I would also add that we are to treat our bodies as a temple and my look on that is, again my opinion because it is true the bible does not say either way but I can't wrap my mind around having my body burned vs being buried. I just keep remembering Shadrach Meshach and Abednego. Even though they walked through the fire unharmed, the fire was for punishment and death and that's one reason I am not in favor of cremation however, if it is all a person can afford, I don't believe it matters to the Lord because our souls leave our bodies and we are given new ones in heaven. I hope that makes you feel a little better about the question. | ||||||
