If my memory serves me correctly, the pagan part comes in from the German goddess of fertility (word Easter is believed to have derived from Eostre, a Teutonic goddess of spring and fertility, which is part of the reason for the Easter bunny and the eggs). One can also make the argument that the word Easter did not come from the mistranslation of the word, but was a word that was made to designate the time period of Jesus death and resurrection. Brad |

Thank you to both Brads. I often think about how much better and easier it would be if my husband and i had the same beliefs, to avoid any disagreements when it comes to talking about God's word. It's somewhat hard, and i feel that we become a little distant from each other when God's word is brought up, for us that is, because we believe total opposite from each other. The pastors wife told me at our church that it's not supposed to be easy being a christian and it's not going to be easy either. I felt pretty encouraged... But i know she's speaking the truth. But i am not alone, because God comforts me and strengthens me and trust in him that he will see me through anything. Thank you all for your help and advice. |
