Will there be a second and third coming of Christ? ____________________ "There is not a distinct second and a third coming, rather one coming, one Parousia at which time God "sum[s] up ... all things in Christ" (Eph. 1:10)" ____________________ "Awaiting and looking for the [fulfillment, the realization of our] blessed hope, even the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One)," Titus 2:13 (Amplified Bible). 'Two examples corroborating the teaching that the church is present through some portion of the persecution and therefore not removed from the earth in a secret coming prior to the 70th Week are Irenaeus (the disciple of Polycarp, a disciple of the apostle John) and Justin Martyr. Irenaeus wrote, "And they [the ten kings] ... shall give their kingdom to the beast, and put the Church to flight." (Against Heresies 5:26.1) 'Justin Martyr wrote, "The man of apostasy [Antichrist] ... shall venture to do unlawful deeds on the earth against us the Christians." (Trypho cx) 'The early church fathers understood there to be only one coming of Christ. They never separated His coming into the idea that He would come first in a secret coming for His church and then later (perhaps seven years) with His church to pour out His wrath on wicked mankind. 'For the above reasons, to understand that a difference was intended in Titus 2:13 between "the blessed hope" being the (secret) Rapture of the saints and "the appearing of...Christ Jesus" as the Revelation of Christ at the end of the 70th Week, is to incorrectly understand the verse. Therefore, there is not a distinct second and a third coming, rather one coming, one Parousia at which time God "sum[s] up ... all things in Christ" (Eph. 1:10)' ____________________ www.signministries.org/ faqs/faq019_thirdcoming.htm (See also www.solagroup.org) |

Hi Kalos, Considering the following scriptures: Dan 7:25 And he shall speak words against the Most High, and he shall wear out the saints of the Most High. And he intends to change times and law. And they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and one half time. Dan 7:26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his rulership, to cut off and to destroy until the end. Dan 7:27 And the kingdom and rulership, and the greatness of the kingdom under all the heavens shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. And all kingdoms shall serve and obey Him. Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm a covenant with the many for one week. And in the middle of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease. And on a corner of the altar will be abominations that desolate, even until the end. And that which was decreed shall pour out on the desolator. Rev 13:5 And a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies was given to it. And authority to act forty two months was given to it. Rev 13:6 And it opened its mouth in blasphemy toward God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, and those tabernacling in Heaven. Rev 13:7 And it was given to it "to war with the saints, and to overcome them." And authority was given to it over every tribe and tongue and nation. Dan. 7:21 Rev 19:19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth, and their armies being assembled to make war with the One sitting on the horse, and with His army. Rev 19:20 And the beast was seized, and with this one the false prophet doing signs before it, by which he led astray those having received the mark of the beast, and those worshiping its image. The two were thrown alive into the Lake of Fire burning with brimstone. Knowing that this final 7 year "week" will be characturized by two halves of 3.5 years each (42 months, 1260 days), and that in this second half, the saints shall be given over to the beast that he would overcome them, but that this beast's authority would be taken away when Jesus returns to earth to rule at the end of this 3.5 years, seven years to the day of when it began, how is it that Jesus would say that no man would know the DAY or the hour? Mat 24:36 But as to that day and that hour, no one knows, neither the angels of Heaven, except My Father only. Mat 25:13 Therefore, watch, for you do not know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man comes. Mar 13:32 But concerning that day and the hour, no one knows, not the angels, those in Heaven, nor the Son, except the Father. These scriptures would become untrue as soon as the Seventieth Week began, and doubly so following the Abomination of Desolation. That would not be the case if in fact the coming, of which no man knows the day or hour, had occured by the time these other things happened. Love in Christ, Mark |

Mark: The Pre-wrath position teaches that the ONE second coming (parousia) of Christ will take place sometime between the opening of the sixth and seventh seals of Revelation, which is not the same as knowing the DAY and HOUR. Grace to you, John Thanks! John |

Hi John, This would then seem to mean that Jesus returns prior to the day prophesied in Daniel of when He takes away the authority of the beast, but that requires that we insert a time gap of well over 5 months between Revelation 19:16 and 19:20, which would accomodate the sounding of the trumpets and the pouring out of the bowls. Just speaking for myself, I do not see how the text allows for that. This would also give serious sequential difficulties in placing the trumpets so late in the tribulation. It also brings up the question of why Daniel would have prophesied that "the Ancient of Days" would come after the 3.5 years were over, if in fact He came sooner. (Daniel 7) Just a couple of final thoughts. Love in Christ, Mark |
