Hi, Christine... Since she is a non-believer there is little she will understand regarding spiritual matters (1 Corinthians 2:14). However, I think your study of pride is still a worthy one. I suggest that you avoid studying with the object in mind of explaining to others. Instead, study so that you will understand as much as the Bible has to say on the topic. Only after that kind of work is done should you look to finding a way to explain it to others. If God is directing you to this study, you will want to know as much as possible about what He has to say concerning this topic. Imagine Him sitting down with you to explain pride. You wouldn't interrupt Him and say, "Wait, that's all I need to know, since I only asked because I want to explain it to my friend." :-) By the way, God never does something to accomplish one tiny task. Often He does things in a way that accomplish many things at once. He's awesome that way! Therefore, as you study pride, don't just think about your friend. Hold yourself up to in the light that you receive. In Him, Doc |

Hello Doc I am so grateful for your words of wisdom. Although my friend is not a Christian she respects my Christian beliefs as she is constantly asking me what would God do in this situation and ask me to pray for her. We have been friends for 14 years. Over the past 18 months she has begun to pray for herself daily and at each step she takes I introduce her to another stage of Gods teachings about prayer. For example, we have discussed forgiveness and the process of forgiveness from Biblical teachings "God's word". I agree with you that God's word is awesome and I feel very Blessed as I sing praises to God that my friend is witnessing and experiencing His awesome love at this time. I will continue to study pride as I agree that sometimes their is a lesson for me through this process as well as I have learnt and gained a greater understanding of forgiveness from studying Gods word. I have also from your last communication decided to take and keep notes for future reference and I think personal growth when I look back over the notes in the future so thankyou for that suggestion. So be assured that I will sit still and be silent in God's presence to meditate on His teaching of pride. Christine |
