Hello again gdh, Why would anyone want to exclude any portion of Scripture? Why would you request that any proof be "excluded". That is not a good approach to bible study. Try Mark 13:11, who speaks? Luke 12:12, who will teach? John 14:25-26 (NASB95) 14:25 "These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. Who will be sent? The Holy Spirit. By whom will He be sent? The Father. In who's name will He be sent? Jesus' The Holy Spirit is a distinct person as clearly taught by Scirpture. He is intelligent (1Cor. 2:10-11) He has a mind (Romans 8:27); He has a will and is purposeful in His actions (1Cor. 12:11) He guides Christians by "hearing", "speaking"and "declaring" things(John 16:13), etc., etc. Although I have only offered a very small amount of Scripture (in comparison to the abundance that is there) clearly showing the Holy Spirit to be a distinct person, I believe it is sufficient. Hope this helps, Jeff |

hi jeff! thanks a load. i had those excluded as i know them already and it has already been argued that this is just due to english grammatical convention and also due to bias of translators as the original has these in neuter *_*. so that does not prove or disprove anything. meantime, i will go through the verses you suggested and get back to you after. again, many thanks for responding. i scanned the unanswered questions and there was a veritable myriad of them and so i truly appreciate that you took time to answer mine *_*. take care, grace |

Greetings gdh1127! You are correct that in the Greek, a pronoun must always agree with it's antecedent in person, gender, and number. The word 'spirit' is neuter in gender. Therefore, the adjective 'holy' is also neuter when modifying the word 'spirit'. And, a neuter pronoun is used when referring to the "Holy Spirit". There are at least two instances where this rule is broken in Scripture. I think this is done so that we will be clear that the Holy Spirit is a person. The two instances are: 1) John 16:13-14: Here, John specifically uses a masculine pronoun to describe the Spirit of Truth, even though 'spirit' is neuter. 2) Eph. 1:14: Here also, a masculine pronoun is used in reference to the Holy Spirit. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Dear Brother Tim, Do you happen to know if this is the reason that the KVJ uses the word "it" in places like John 1:32, 1 John 5:6, etc.? Perhaps this is why English speakers often used "it" rather than "he" when speaking of the Holy Ghost in writings over the last few centuries? As always, your linguistic expertise is much appreciated! In Him, Doc |

Greetings Doc! Strictly speaking, 'it' would be the most literal translation. There are a couple of exceptions that I mentioned previously. But, the form of a word is more a matter of rules rather than reality. What I mean is that since the word 'spirit' is neuter, any pronoun referencing the Holy Spirit must be neuter as well even though the Holy Spirit is not neuter. :-) p.s. - Did anyone notice that the forum has added a spell checker? :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
