Scripture ... Num 6:1-21; Jud 13:4-7, 16:17; 1 Sam 1:11; Luk 1:15 ... joel k, Study the Scripture posted ... any other reference is an opinion. Prove to me that Samuel and John were total Nazirites ... their parents were told to observe one part of the vow. Now, I don't want the opinions of "experts" ... they may be wrong. Searcher |

searcher thank you for the scripture ref.'s Please excuse me if I am wrong, but your reply seems a little hostile. "prove to me" If I had proof I would not put the question to the forum. I was hoping the saints that use this site may have some study information for me, as one of my students has put the question to me. The typical bible ref.'s like you posted are inconclusive. You certianly do have my apologies for the incompleteness of my original post. It was my belief that saying " ...immaculate conception" then adding " ? " would fully poise the question. I will certianly try to be more mindfull of the veiwers ablity to contemplate an abreviated question. This forum would be a more suitable study tool if it were not so contentious. I can not prove anything, but let me show you what I,ve found so far. If you will, please, go to a site called "swordsearcher" and enter the word "nazirite". FYI you will see 2 downloads available free. The primary will dwnload all, the seccondary (reccommended) will allow you to chose which ones you want. To follow up on my post "why remove a post if you don't answer it". Please sir, I am trying to figure out how to use this site and be in conjunction with the other users. I beleived removing it from the unanswered page would cause it to remain unanswered, so I posted it again. I know from experience that there is much mis-understanding in what we write, because it lacks expressions and the readers are not in the same tranquility of mind as the writers. So,I am going to pray and hope that I/we are not exploiting and mutating the Word of God. So you may see me again and you may not. Peace be with you brothers, we shall all meet on that Glorious morning when we are gathered up onto the Lord, our God. joel k |

Forgive me if I sound hostile ... I want to know how you see something, that I do not. You said "There were 3 men born a nazirite... samson ... sammuel .. john the baptist." ... but, I believe the latter two were not. I want you to show me using Scripture that Sammuel and John the Baptist were born Nazirites. I am aware that some "experts" say so ... but, that is not good enough for me. Once a question is answered it moves from the unanswered to the answered page ... as you see, I was the second of four people who answered this question you posted. I also was (am) trying to figure out why who had "immaculate conception" in your post ... that is the reason for the question mark. Searcher |

Searcher, Eighty percent of the Old Testament citations in the New Testament are quotes from the Septuagint, including most of Jesus' quotes. Luke 1:15 has an implict reference to the Septuagint version of 1 Samuel 1:11 which includes the Nazarite vows promised of Samuel by his mother when she promised to dedicate him to the Lord. Samuel was another great prophet and precursor the first king of the Jews, as john was to The King of the Jews. These details are not found in the Hebrew version of 1 Samuel 1:11. "and she made a vow (1), promising: "O LORD of hosts, if you look with pity on the misery of your handmaid, if you remember me and do not forget me, if you give your handmaid a male child, I will give him to the LORD for as long as he lives; neither wine nor liquor shall he drink, and no razor shall ever touch his head." 1 [11] Give him to the LORD: some ancient texts call Samuel a nazir in this context" NAB Bible and footnote The NAB is a Catholic Bible translations and in passages where the where an Old Tetsament passage is cited in the New Testament is from the Septuagint, it follows the Septuagint translation in the Old Testament passage also. Since the Septuagint was translated from the Hebrew to the Greek by Jewish scholars about 200 years before the birth of Christ, it gives clear reflection of how the Hebrew passage was understood and also how the early Christians, most of whom, both Jews of the Disapora and Gentiles, understood certain passages. The early Church used the Septuagint because they spoke Greek not Hebrew, which is also why the New Testament was written in Greek. See my previous post #104494 on Isaiah 7:14 which addresses the same issues on a different text Matt 1:23 and Is 7:14. I don't undewrstand the "Immaculate Conception" question either. Some people confuse that with virgin birth but it is not the same. Immaculate Conception has to do with being conceive "immaculate" or "pure" from sin, not virgin birth. In any case neither applies to Samson, Samuel or John. Emmaus |

emmaus ... I am joel k , the original poster of this tread. Thank you for the "educated" information you offer. I guess you are one of the few who understands that the present versions of the bible are not the only inspired Word of God, but rather a cropped and controled revision of God's word. This is more like the information I was asking for. I saw on your profile that you are a Catholic. While everyone agrees that there has been much shameful news aired about some laymen of the Catholic denomination, I , however take a differnt approach. As a southern Baptist, I have heard much slander and name calling going out to the Catholics. And I stand in their defense. We all have faith in the same God, the Holy one of Israel. If we choose to be condemning, we should condemn the sin, not the sinner. As far as immaculate conception goes I was asking if the birth of a nazirite was concieved by the Holy Spirit, like the conception of Christ, or was the child from his own father. In all 3 cases, the woman was barren and the angel of the Lord came and said she will concieve. Each scripture of a nazirite refers to their purpose of bringing deliverance of God's people, like Christ. However, as you know there is some distinct differences between them and Christ. Christ was born of a virgin, not a barren woman. He came eating and drinking. (matt. 11:19) Christ forfilled prophesy and of course the obvious difference, crucificion and ressurection I hope all who read this note can understand my quest was not to devaluate the birth of our Savior as to make it seem more common, but my quest was to prove Jesus was the ONLY begotten Son of God. I have found the answer that proves a nazirite was NOT concieved immaculately, but of his own father. (1 sammuel 1:19) thank you to all who participated with out contentions. joel k |
