Merv You missed my point the Sabbath created by God was a day of rest not a day of worship. We can’t have a meaningful discussion of the Sabbath if we are talking about two different things. I gave you many scriptures that proved the Sabbath was a day of rest not of worship. The Sabbath day of rest evolved in the Jewish tradition into a day of worship of study. Even then in true Sabbath worship the priest had very little to do on the Sabbath. The synagogues used various members in their worship service. Don't confuse Temple worship, which was daily with Sabbath worship. Two entirely different things. You said, "You can go to any pastor out there and they will say WE as Christians must keep a day of rest. Unfortunately it is the 1st day they consider the Sabbath." That is patently untrue. Not all pastors call Sunday worship Sabbath nor do they think Sunday worship replaced the Sabbath. The Sabbath was given by God to man as a day of rest. God said you shall rest on that day. In the time of Moses you weren't even allowed by God to go pick up food. That was God ordinance not man's in this case. Most everything in the Old Testament is a foreshadow that would be full disclosed in the New Testament. In Genesis we have a prophecy that the mantle of authority would not past from Judah’s hand until Shiloh the rest giver came. Genesis 49:10 (NASB) 10 "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. And in fact that authority never left Judah until 4 BC when Rome finally removed the Jewish authority to sentence anyone to death. Even through the Babylonian captivity there was Jewish king with power of life and death from the line of Judah on the throne in Jerusalem. Jesus later declared Himself the Lord of the Sabbath Matthew 12:8 (NASB) 8 "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." When asked why His disciples traveled and gathered food on the Sabbath Jesus more or less said He was the Sabbath. We see this expanded more in Hebrews that begins in 4:1 Again if you look at Hebrews you see the discussion is rest and entering God’s rest. Jesus was the Lord of Sabbath or the provider of that rest. Man no longer needed the spiritual rest Jesus had met that need. Once again do not confuse Sabbath rest with Sunday church worship, also don’t confuse it with what the Jews do either neither is right. If you want to keep the Sabbath you must cease all work at sun down Friday and do absolutely nothing except the essentials until sun down Saturday. Doing absolutely nothing included not going to church. Nothing is nothing. Now I don’t think you can say you keep the Sabbath, all you really do is worship on Saturday. So what you have in fact done is got yourself tangled up in man made laws and you don’t even realize it. Because your leadership calls Sunday worship keeping the Sabbath on the wrong day is nonsense. Keeping the Sabbath is not about worship but rather about rest. Perhaps if you would study Sabbath rest you would have a better understanding of the falsehood of your teaching or at least you might understand the Sunday worship is entirely different than the Sabbath. Everyone know the Sabbath is the last day of the week not the first. EdB |

Ed: Let me get this straight !!! Before man fell to sin - what was the purpose God had for us. Let me see "was it not to love and worship Him" and in return He would bless and love us" We had a relationship with God prior to sin. God loved us deeply and His only requirment was to love God uncoinditionally and obey His commands which were given to bless us and keep us from evil. Now God gave us the creation to enjoy and fill our days with blessings but the only reason God created a 7th day - was for rest AND He "santified" it or set it apart. Time was set apart by God so we would be able during the week to put all things aside - REST - and have the time to really focus on GOD - even though we would always want during the week to please God and fellowship with Him. But this was a specific time alotted by God for this fellowship which would not be competing with any other activites. You seem to be saying that "if" the day was changed from a day of rest to a day of worship - that was a bad thing done by the Jews. Does that really make sense. You do not think Gopd wants our worship. I cannot see you point at all. Even Jesus when He walked with the Jews - went to the synagogue. Never once do we see Jesus condemming the Jewish synogogue worship service. There is just no evidence. Instead it says that Paul and Jesus went and "stood up to read". Sabbath or worship on Sabbath was never condemned by Jesus. He rebuked the Pharisees for making it a burden because they lost sight of not the "resting" part (they added plenty of rest requirments) but the part of loving God through sincere worship which would mean doing "good" on the Sabbath - not just following all there burdensome "added" requirements of the Sabbath. Well if pastors do not think the 1st day replaced the 7th then why not keep the original Sabbath 7th. But most don't. Very few denomination keep the Sabbath (7th) day. I am sorry but clear logic means that if you are resting from routine activites then you have time to do what ????? Worship God together. Clealy, Lev.23:2 - says "holy convocation". Gathering together to worship the God they love and in return loves them. Obviously, God's love in not contigent on man's love. Jews did not make it into a worship day - God made it for worship and fellowship with Him because man was free from daily (day 1-6) activities. Yes they did not collect manna - Why cause God provided it. So they did not have to do any work. Jesus - did not say "more or less" he was the Sabbath or He would have said it. Do not make general statements where there no scripture to back them up. Jesus clearly said He was Lord of the Sabbath. So I guess that means He cancelled it and moved it to his future resurection. Meaning that if His disciples broke a Jewish law of collecting food - since Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and these are His disciples doing His work of His ministry then I guess gathering some food was ok according to God's purpose of His ministry. But by no means does Jesus say we are to begin working on the Sabbath or cease from coming together on the Sabbath to "convocate" together to love and worship Him. Will continue, Merv Merv |

Merv Read for yourself what God says to do on the Sabbath I gave you the scriptures. Do you see any place where God says go to church? Worship together? Now we know the Jews would only walk 1000 steps on a Sabbath most stayed home and read scripture those that lived closed enough to a synagogue went there and read scripture. There was no preacher as such. There was not one that opened the doors, turned on the air, etc. More importantly there was no one working. Work was forbidden on the Sabbath. The only rite a priest could perform on the Sabbath by law was a circumcision which had to be done on the 8 th day. They certainly wouldn't drive on the Sabbath yet you do and then you call us Sabbath breakers. Does that make sense? Jesus is the fulfillment of the Sabbath rest we no longer have to refrain from work on the Sabbath. However we are still admonished to keep it Holy. We do for we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are made Holy by the blood of Jesus not by our actions. Our actions are like filthy rags. We follow the early church where it worshipped on Sunday. There is some evidence in the Bible of this and you have been shown the scriptures to prove that. But there is far more evidence in actual church history. Men that knew and lived with the Apostles handed down teaching that the Apostles taught them. Once of them was Sunday worship. Now we know in the Book of Acts when the Church was trying to decide which laws newly converted Gentiles should/needed to follow Sabbath rest wasn't one of them. Now if you want to keep the Sabbath fine, but don't do any work on the day, that includes driving a car, cooking food, walking any distance, and there is many more if your interested. If you can't/won't do that then your not keeping the Sabbath anymore than we are. Scripture says to break on part of the Law is to break it all. Think about it. EdB |
