Stories with the same themes are repeated many times in the Bible, but with different characters. Some examples in Genesis are the cases of 3 different barren wives, Sarah, Rebekah and Rachel. Also sibling rivalry between a good and evil brother, Cane and Abel, Isaac and Ishmael, Jacob and Esau. Another example is patriarchs passing their wives off as sisters when passing through a pagan town. What is the purpose of the repeated stories with different characters? | ||||||

Hi, Chusarcik... There are probably a variety of reasons. Repetition using different examples is a great way to teach. Also, it keeps us from focusing on the components, instead of the principles being taught. Finally, it demonstrates what is important to God and what He says is important for us to know.
