Hello, Tim - Excellent example and insightful commentary, dear brother! Even we who are Christian tend to lose sight now and then I believe of how profound the difference is between the spiritual discernment of the unregenerate sinner and the regenerate believer. Once I made the cardinal mistake of trying to persuade a man who was an evolutionist that his view was wrong and that biblical creationism was right. I proceeded to lecture him about what the Bible says about creation. He stopped me dead in my tracks when he said, "Well, I don't care what Genesis says, I believe in evolution." I realize now, and regret, my mistake. I should have let the evolution discourse alone and told him about Jesus. Even if Christians are able to score enough points to win every argument about evolution, abortion, homosexuality, et cetera, and fail to tell the lost the good news about the Savior, they have failed in their mission as disciples of Christ. It's like winning the battle and losing the war, isn't it? ...... It really does no good to try to refute the sinner's arguments or change his world view. But we can tell him about Jesus, and pray that the Holy Spirit through the instrumentality of the word of God will convict him of sin and bring him to saving faith in Christ. That's basically why I advised the questioner to ignore the sarcastic letter. Like you, Tim, I am convinced that it is futile to argue issues of morality or doctrine with anyone who has not been born again. Paul first preached Christ and Him crucified to sinners. Later he touched on matters such as moral conduct and doctrine to the redeemed of Christ's church. Shouldn't we do likewise? ..... God bless. --Hank | ||||||

Greetings Hank! We have often seen on this forum how difficult it is to persuade a believer about something the Bible says, let alone an unbeliever! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
