Greetings Ray! Allow me to illustrate my point about not aruging doctrine with an unbeliever. I was witnessing to a young man while I was in high school. He had agreed to come home with me and attend services at my church that night. When we arrived at my house, I began to share about Christ with him. Immediately, he had all kinds of questions. He asked about the end times. He asked about tongues. He asked about all kinds of questions like these. What was my response to him? You don't know Christ yet, these other issues would make no sense to you. So, we went back to talking about Jesus. That night, he accepted Christ. :) If the person who wrote the letter is not a Christian, it will mean nothing to him/her to say that God says that homosexuality is a sin. He or she will simply reject what God has to say. Or, he or she may not even accept that the Bible is God's word. In the end, arguing the various points will be fruitless. But, sharing Christ with him or her might very well bring him/her to the place that he/she is ready to accept Christ. That is what I meant by ignoring the letter! :) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hello, Tim - Excellent example and insightful commentary, dear brother! Even we who are Christian tend to lose sight now and then I believe of how profound the difference is between the spiritual discernment of the unregenerate sinner and the regenerate believer. Once I made the cardinal mistake of trying to persuade a man who was an evolutionist that his view was wrong and that biblical creationism was right. I proceeded to lecture him about what the Bible says about creation. He stopped me dead in my tracks when he said, "Well, I don't care what Genesis says, I believe in evolution." I realize now, and regret, my mistake. I should have let the evolution discourse alone and told him about Jesus. Even if Christians are able to score enough points to win every argument about evolution, abortion, homosexuality, et cetera, and fail to tell the lost the good news about the Savior, they have failed in their mission as disciples of Christ. It's like winning the battle and losing the war, isn't it? ...... It really does no good to try to refute the sinner's arguments or change his world view. But we can tell him about Jesus, and pray that the Holy Spirit through the instrumentality of the word of God will convict him of sin and bring him to saving faith in Christ. That's basically why I advised the questioner to ignore the sarcastic letter. Like you, Tim, I am convinced that it is futile to argue issues of morality or doctrine with anyone who has not been born again. Paul first preached Christ and Him crucified to sinners. Later he touched on matters such as moral conduct and doctrine to the redeemed of Christ's church. Shouldn't we do likewise? ..... God bless. --Hank | ||||||

Greetings Hank! We have often seen on this forum how difficult it is to persuade a believer about something the Bible says, let alone an unbeliever! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
