Greetings geof and welcome to the forum. Is there a principle in interpreting the bible? Yes! There are many. Some include the principle of word study, the principle of context, the principle of parallelism, and the principle of culture. There is a very good book that I used in school called "Knowing Scripture" by R. C. Sproul. If you would like to delve into interpretation I suggest you read this book to get an understanding of it. As or different denominations they almost all interpret things in different ways. Some get their interpretation from history of their denomination, some get it from making the bible fit their needs. The best thing to do is to study the word and see how God would lead you to understanding. Hope this helps. prayon | ||||||
