Angel: Good post. May I just point out one thing? The Pharisees' problem was not the text of the Law. Their problem was the attempt to follow their traditions instead of God's Law. The Pharisees' problem was not Law, but Legalism. Legalism does not mean keeping the Law of Moses. Legalism is keeping man-made [religious] rules and regulations, adding to the Law. Grace to you, kalos |

Hi, kalos! Technically you are correct! But from the perspective of the Pharisees, though they twisted the Mosaic Law to construct their idologies, they were following the text of the Law... Both Pharisees and Sadducees maintained that they were true worshippers. Their assault on Christ was supported by their belief that they and not Jesus were adhering to the Law! Only after Jesus reprimanded them and confronted them with the Truth did they retreat from the scene--yet, even then they refused to give up their ideologies as they were convinced that they held the deposit of the Law and that they were authorized by God to dispense the Law, as twisted as they had made it! In reality, the religious elite transgressed God's commandments but they were blind to the truth and were confident that they were the last word on the Word! God Bless! Angel |
