Why ask Why? Why ask Where? Tim: Why do you annoy users with questions about pesky details, such as "Where is the Scripture that makes this statement?" Didn't you know that this is the Freewill, Freethinking, Freewheeling Forum? At least, that is my perception of it. From my reading of the majority of posts, I thought this was the Op/Ed page of the NY Times. Now we have to back up our opinions with Scripture? How unfair! With tongue in cheek, kalos |

Hi, kalos! You are right! Having opinions are great, specially if it we can rely on where does it say that... not to listen but to be proven by text that is an exact type of what we seek to listen. Just for example: The Jehovah Witnesses ask: where in the Bible does it say that God is a triune God? Where in the Bible does is it mention the word Trinity? Of couse by such standards it is impossible to use Scripture--I mean unless we are prepare to introduce a new "version" that would insert such titles/words in it. I suggest to you that they refuse to read Scripture and listen--not to the letter of the text, since this is exactly what confused the Masters of the Law, the Sadducees and Pharisees--but to the Holy Spirit who is the only One who can reveal to us the Truth! God Bless! Angel |

Angel: Good post. May I just point out one thing? The Pharisees' problem was not the text of the Law. Their problem was the attempt to follow their traditions instead of God's Law. The Pharisees' problem was not Law, but Legalism. Legalism does not mean keeping the Law of Moses. Legalism is keeping man-made [religious] rules and regulations, adding to the Law. Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. The law is gone for our righteousness' sake. Why are we doing this train of thought again when the previous thread on the same subject was restricted? None of the arguments have changed. Things have still passed from the old law, invalidating the Matthew passage (til heaven and earth pass away ... one jot or tittle will not pass ... til all be fulfilled) as an arguement. As pointed out in the previous thread on this general subject, things have passed from the law, indicating that all has been fulfilled. In addition, Paul says more times than I care to record that we are not under the law. Again, why is this topic still being debated? We are not under the written law. God's law is now written on our hearts and minds. These are the terms of the new covenant. Written ordinances are contrary to us. The Law causes sin to revive and kill us spiritually. The letter of the law is not the point. No one was able to satisfactorily debate this point last time. Unless some new arguements have come up, it will not be satisfactory this time either. Theo-Minor: Why is this topic still being debated? That's what I would like to know. "It takes unacceptable theological legerdemain to conclude that when God writes the Torah (law) on hearts he changes it into something other than the Torah" (Restoring the Jewishness of the Gospel, David H. Stern, Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc., 1988)! NASB Hebrews 8:10 "FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND I WILL WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS. AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. Grace to you, kalos |

Cool new word to add to my vocabulary: legerdemain. I like it! Great quote, too! Thank you, kalos. |
