Good evening to every one online. Im a baby in Christ, and trying to learn as much as I can learn regarding the word of God. I have been told in all thy getting get thine own understanding. I looked up that verse and found it in Proverbs4:7. In the king James version it reads Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting get understanding. My question is this, when I study and I get and understanding of what Im reading, and then speak to someone else about it, and they say my understanding is wrong. How should I study? by myself or with someone who knows more than me, and get their understanding? I have to get my own understanding right? |

ucmenew Hi and welcome to the Study Bible Forum. To get a true understanding of the Bible we need a systematic approach. That quite frankly is the problem in many churches and with many people today. They have not systematically studied the Bible but rather keyed into subjects that interested them or sparked their curiosity and ignored much of the truth of the Bible. Before you start formulating your own theology, I suggest you read the entire Bible. Short of that then you need to either do a topical study or a word study. Get a topical Bible and start researching a topic. Or a concordance and start a word study. If you just read a passage or two on a subject you can get some very wrong ideas. You may also want to see if there in an inductive Bible study being held in your area. I would also suggest you get a solid Christian mentor that will disciple you. Have you talked to your Pastor about this? Perhaps there are resources in the your church or locally that he can make you aware of and would fill your needs. EdB |
