I attend a church where I feel called to, my pastor believes that if I want to serve I should do it at the church where I am called. I also attend another bible study outside of my home church where I am being pressured to be officially on leadership. there seems to be some conflict here, does anyone have scriptural advise for me? | ||||||

My answer............................................................. Welcome to the forum Strts, It seems to me that there are three possibilities here. The first is that your pastor believes that your church needs help so much that it would require so much time that you would not be able to also be involved with ministry outside of your church. The second is that your pastor knows that the Bible study you participate in outside of church has cultic influences, and your pastor is trying to protect you from them. The third option is that your church is a cult and the pastor doesn't want you to be in a Bible study outside of the church where you might learn the truth and get out of the cult. Without more information, there is no way to determine which of these, if any, are the case in your particular situation. |

Sir Pent There is a fourth option and one I believe is most common. The Pastor is insecure and afraid that he might lost this person to another group/church. Many Pastors view the church not as God's but rather as their own. Society has a tendency to judge success not by what is accomplished but rather by how much. In many cases the number of people that attend directly effect the Pastor’s salary and whether he has the support of the church board of not. Therefore anything that could possibly lead a person away becomes an adversary or stands in the way of Pastor feeling/appearing successful. I believe this is one reason the church in America is so splintered, many that stand in pulpit do so by what they believe is their own ability and I guess in some cases that is true. However in the church that is truly serving God it is God that adds and subtracts not the ability of the man or anything else. EdB |
