Scripture ... 1 Pet 5:5 "You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." ... Read the context of this verse. I agree with Ed. The pastor may know something about this group that you do not. Moreover, I would want know why you are serving outside the church and not within ... or is there no opportunity to serve in the church. Searcher |

I have to agree with Searcher56. Although the Bible isn't ideally specific with this guidance as it seems to allow some leeway for our better judgment, it is better to serve and assemble with one congregation. I know...I've been a member of one congregation while visiting another one just a few miles away for the express purpose of finding a congregation more suitable to the needs and personality of both my wife and myself. I like to use the ole phrase of "Growing where God plants you." However, there's nothing wrong with transplanting oneself to another group but I do think expects us to make up our mind and become a solid asset to one group and become truly productive. You can't really do that if you're splitting up your time, effort and loyalties to more than one. Again, I must admit there's not a whole of scripture to guide us here, just some wisdom from those of us, "long in the tooth." Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

Thank you ALL very much for your imput. Let me clarify my question. My Pastor is most concearned with making deciples and does not believe there is anything wrong with the other ministry, just that I can grow better by not dividing my energy too much (I agree). The other ministry is young and there and in being young is showing some imiturity. I enjoy attending the other ministry, but being pressured to be in leadership when I have already stated that I am committed to another ministry is wearing on me. I guess my real question is how to show humility and love to the other pastor when he is weak and not tear him down. As I said his ministry is young and and he is struggling with where it is, and my utmost concearn is to build him up in his weakness. Anyways I feel like I am just venting my frustation at this point, but anyones feedbak would be appreciated. Thank you!

strts Perhaps your trying to do something God hasn't prepared you for. Perhaps there is someone waiting in the wings for your exit so they can rise up to the occasion. You already said your sure your to be in the other ministry. Perhaps that is where you need to focus. EdB |

Duhhh! (just kidding:) But yes you are right, I am triing to do too much... I do need to serve at my home church so that my church and I may grow together, it's just not sinking in with the other pastor, and I don't waant to just stop going. I love the other pastor and enjoy fellowshiping with him, I just don't know how to respond without offending him anymore, he seems to take it as an attack on his ministry ( to clarify he does understand it is really Christ's ministry).

strts When people leave a ministry many times the pastor takes it as a personal rejection. They shouldn't but it is often hard to get past the hurt. What you need to do is take this pastor to lunch, explain to him your dilemma telling him your certain your called to the other ministry. Then begin to complement and encourage him perhaps a small gift as a token of your appreciation for what he had sown into your life. Leave the door open should you ever felt lead to go back to his church. The longer you put this off the harder it will be to do and also the harder it will be for the pastor to understand. EdB |
