1 | Ordained of God or Man? | Bible general Archive 2 | jalanlambert | 118155
Hi! I would like to know what the scriptures say about someone being ordained to preach the gospel? A gentleman in our church believes that anyone speaking at our church need be ordained by some governing body in order to qualify to speak. I recently started attending a Missionary Baptist church and this practice is new to me. I thought men are ordained of God to preach the gospel. Any verses or views on this subject would be appreciated. I will be off line after 4:00 p.m. EST. but will look foward to your reply. Thank you for your time. JAL

Jeremiah 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding. Ezekiel 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Romans 10:14-15 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Praise the Lord! Norm |

I would agree that men are ordained by God, as Norm has mentioned Acts 20:28 says this, but I would also go to the qualifications for an overseer in 1 Timothy 3:1-5: "If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, soberminded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own hosehold well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church?" Now keeping in mind that God does call them, they are required to have a lot, including "able to teach." God will provide the way for all of this if he has called them and in our time the way to receive knowledge is mostly through an institution of some type. Therefore, I would say that it is not required in order to be ordained, but in this time most of those who God has given these qualifications has been ordained by an institution. |
