Sir Pent, I would weigh-in with Tim on this issue. I do not believe anywhere in scripture are we told that suicide is "an unforgivable sin". Christ either died for ALL sins or He didn't (Col. 2:13). Just as a note: When you say that "A person who ends their life denying God cannot be saved", how do we know that they are denying God? The references in Romans do not seem to me to be making a case against suicide as much as they are, in generel dealing with unbelief and it's consequences. Those are my thoughts on this matter. I remain: Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Defense of my position......................................... Hi BradK, I appreciate both your and Tim Moran's opposing viewpoint, and actually agree with you that suicide is not an unforgivable sin. I believe that if a person somehow survives suicide, they can indeed repent to God and be forgiven for it. However, if the person does not survive, then they cannot be saved. This is not because their sin is so terrible, but simply because a person cannot be saved who is in denial of God at the time that they die. I think that you and I would both agree that if a person dies in a state of denial of God's essential character then they cannot be saved. Therefore, the disagreement is simply over whether we believe that the person committing suicide is denying God or not. As I stated in my previous post, a person who commits suicide (assuming mental capability for rational thought) is making a decision based on several beliefs. They believe that their present situation is beyond God's ability to help them through (denying His power) or that He does not want to help them (denying His love). They also deny that He has a plan for the rest of their life (denying His word in Jeremiah 29:11). Do you have any other way to see this than a denial of God? |

Personal Note............................................. Hi Hank, Ha, ha :) You are very correct. A person couldn't survive suicide. I should have said survived a suicide "attempt". This reminds me of one of my favorite movies called "It's a Wonderful Life". There's a line in there that says suicide is illegal around these parts. However, I wonder what the punishment would be considering the person would already be dead? |
