1 | Looking for college bible reading prog. | Josh 8:35 | DocTrinsograce | 240598
Hi, College Student... Welcome to the forum! There are under 1,200 chapters in the Bible. For the sake of simplicity, let's say you have 260 days in which to fulfill two college semesters. That will mean that you will need to read about 4.5 chapters a day to achieve your goal of reading the Bible through in your first year of college. So why not start out by trying to read 5 chapters a day? Keep track of the total. Since you will be reading 3.5 chapters more per week than necessary, that will allow you to make some adjustments for some of the really long chapters. After all, you'll run into some short ones, too. You might find it helpful to put the date you read a chapter in the margin of your Bible. Doing that kind of thing sometimes helps one to persevere in there reading. By the way, you can listen to the entire Bible in under 80 hours. It is a bit like flying over a forest at 2,500 feet. But it is surprising the kinds of things one can learn from the experience. God bless you in your efforts to diligently read the Word. In Him, Doc |

2 | College Bible Study Guide | Josh 8:35 | College Student | 240599
Hi, Thanks for the advice. Are there any study guides that are made for a plan like this? It would be really helpful for me, as I'm not the best planner, and having a carefully planned and tested schedule might be the difference between success and failure for busy college students. I'm kind of thinking about a guide with 1/2 hour or 1 hour daily sessions of reading and maybe some context or study questions. Thank you! |

Hi, College Student... I do not know of anything as specific as you describe. If you want reading and study, it might be better for you to find a New Testament survey. Otherwise, the task may be more difficult than you imagine -- at least in combining a helpful study along with a reading plan. There are read-through-the-bible plans for six months, you might even find one for nine months. The Following may be useful: http://www.biblereadingproject.com/2010/05/basic-bible-reading-plans.html See in particular pages 13 and 14. From that table you will be able to work out your own schedule. The good news is that you have about 90 days to figure it out. (Maybe you should partner with another student to provide some accountability.) If you do figure out a good schedule, I am sure that it will be helpful for other students. By the way, if you read three chapters a day, you can read through the Gospels before school starts! I certainly hope that your plans also include attending a good Bible believing church! In Him, Doc "How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word." (Psalms 119:9 NASB) |
