Please excuse my ignorance in asking so many questions But I feel compelled to ask this one also to see what imput this forum can provide me with. So please bear with me once again. Fenelon I believe is attributed with the quote: "Let go, and let God" But in 2 Tim. 4:7 it didn't appear to be Paul's philosophy of the day when he stated: 2Tim. 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: In this I see 3 "I haves" of Paul, he said: 1) I HAVE fought the good fight. I also cross reference this with the following verse: 1Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I think Paul was saying we have been enlisted as soliders in the army of Christ, theres a real battle thats being waged. Do we have to take up the armor and get dressed for battle, or does God dress us? Do we follow Him into battle? 2) I HAVE finished my course -- here is the second I have of Paul from this verse 3) I HAVE kept the faith. I know that believers are kept by the power of God through faith. (1 Pet. 1:5) So do these kept verses contradict each other? Does faith require maintenance on the part of those who have it? In Eph 2:10 it says that we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works. The key here is good works. James 2:17 says faith without works is dead. This means faith is not somthing that we can produce on our own. Faith is one of the manifestations of the fruit of the Spirit in Gal 5. And in John 15 Jesus said that He is the vine and that we were the branches, and a branch cannot bear fruit of itself except it abide in the vine. So, the vine produces the fruit we just bear it. So just abide in Christ, He is our source. Do not seek after the resource. Just walk with His Spirit, and talk with Him, and fellowship with Him and don't resist Him. Remember, Christ is our righteousness in I Cor 1:30. And we have been made righteousness of God in Him, (II Cor 5:21) | ||||||

Wigglesworth; Thank you for that wonderful and insightful answer. I appreciate it very much, however I note that you said: "Just walk with His Spirit, and talk with Him, and fellowship with Him and don't resist Him." Many I talk to say He can't be resisted. I agree more so with your statement which I just quoted from your post. So I would like to ask you if you tend to agree or disagree with the following statement The Holy Spirit operates in us as we co-operate with Him. If we refuse to yield to Him, His fruit cannot be borne in us. In Christ zach† |

Hi zacht, I hope that Wigglesworth replies to you, but we have talked in another place about the spirit being given. Perhaps I would have said, "Just walk with His spirit, and talk with Him, and fellowship with Him and don't resist His spirit." We have talked about quenching the spirit and how the Holy Spirit can not be quenched. As we yield to Him, then His spirit is seen in us by others. From the heart, Ray |

Ray; thank you for taking time to reply; If the Holy Spirit cannot be quenched, then why does scripture admonish us: "Quench not the Spirit" 1 Thess. 5:19? In Christ zach† |

I am sorry that I have not replied to you, all this is new to me. The Forum that is. But I would like to agree with you on the fact that He can operate in and through us as long as long as we co-operate with Him. The Holy Spirit is a gentleman and will not force Himself on anyone. The statement that he cannot be resisted is taken from Acts 6:10. Stephen was preaching and doing great signs and wonders and the people could not denie what he was saying was true and the Holy Spirit was convicting them. However, when Stephen defended himself just one chapter over in Acts 7:54 it says "When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth." No one would believe and they stoned him. But in Acts 2 Peter preached at Pentacost and it says in v37 "Now when they heard this they were pricked, (cut), in there heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the Apostles, Men and bretheren, what shall we do? They all got saved. Now, God has a perfect will and a permisive will. Psalm 106:13-15 says "They soon foregot His works; they waited not for His councel: But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. And He gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul." The Holy Spirit will convict me of sin and give me a chance to repent but He will not make me. No one can resist His convicting power. In His service. Wigglesworth |
