etta; Here are just a few of the many verses concerning this topic; They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for awhile believe, and in time of temptation FALL away. (Lk. 8:13 Mark 4:16-17) Heb 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. But it is happened unto them For if after they have escaped the pollution's of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than after they have known, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. (2 Pet. 2:20-22) For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame. (Heb. 6:4-6 NASB) 1Tim 5:12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 1Tim 5:15 For some are already turned aside after Satan. Rev. 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Joh 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. zach† |

Hi Zach, You view misleads a believer (and others) into thinking that his salvation is dependent upon himself, rather than wholly on the power of God and the sufficiency of Christ's finished work on the cross. If your confidence is in yourself to not lose what God has given you, then maybe you haven't received it at all. Christ alone is the author and finisher of our faith. Where is your faith? Do you have faith in yourself to maintain your salvation? If you do, then your faith is not in Christ. If you believe in yourself to stay saved, then you don't believe in Christ that HE will lose none that the Father has given him (John 6:39 "This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.) If you believe that by your lack of effort that you will perish, then you don't believe Christ that none to whom he has given eternal life will ever perish (John 10:28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.) The salvation you teach depends on God and man. The salvation the Bible teaches belongs to God alone. Rev 19:1 After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God; Lionstrong |

Lionstrong; If you re-read my post to etta, you will see that I gave her only scripture references, without any of my own commentaries attached to them. etta asked for verses and i provided them. So what i used was Scripture alone. If you think I wrote those verses ...... well you know I didn't. In Christ zach† |

The verses were given, Zach, to support the false notion that an almighty God who purposes to save someone does not have the power (or wisdom) to always succeed in that task. None of the verses given support the truth that once (Almighty God has) saved (He cannot fail but to keep) always saved. John 10:28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. Peace, Lionstrong |

Dear Lionstrong, Please excuse my interjection here. The verses Zach quotes show that it IS possible to loose your salvation. This is not a matter of God's inability to save or of our own merit. The verses show that while our salvation rests in God sometimes our damnation rests in ourselves. If we reject God and his salvation -- we walk away from it -- then our salvation is lost. |

Hi Tim, Zach's references do not show that it is possible to lose your salvation. In a manner of speaking it is not your salvation, it is God's salvation, and he keeps this gift safe for the recipient (1 Pet 1:4-5 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.) Tim, you write, "This is not a matter of God's inability to save..." This does not make sense, or maybe I don't understand what you mean by "save." What do you mean by "save?" In your understanding, What has taken place when God saves a person? Yours for a better understanding, Lionstrong |
