1 | is how we use our talents to be judged? | NT general Archive 1 | Jesusman | 192369
So .. basically you are saying there is no such thing as an unsaved person? Did you even read the passage in Revelation 20? Notice that the passage, which parrallels the passage in Matthew, clearly begins with all of the dead coming before God. Not just the saved .. but everyone. And notice in Matthew, it doesn't not say whether the sheep and goats are all supposed to be saved people, but notice that the goats were sent away. if they were saved, then why is God pushing them away? Is he suddenly removing his gift of eternal life? No .. It's clear from the context that this is about God separating the saved from the unsaved, then judging them on what they did in life. 2 | once "saved" always "saved" | NT general Archive 1 | JohnDiscipleship | 192400
Yes I did read Revalation 20, thanks for the sarcasm, am I to understand from the stand you are taking that you believe that once "saved" always "saved". The start of Matthew 25v32 says He will gather all the nations, v34 says come to me all who are blessed and take your inheritence. Romans 2 v7 says To those who persistance in doing good seek glory honor and immortality he will give eternal life. I think that when God gives us the right to use His name through Christ that we should honor that name in deeds and thanks and that if we continue in our old way of life we risk our eternal future.Hebrews 10 v 26-27
3 | once "saved" always "saved" | NT general Archive 1 | DocTrinsograce | 192405
"The doctrine of divine grace, according to eternal purpose, which God [sic] in Christ Jesus before the world began, is a doctrine according to Godliness; and when rightly held and taught, tends to promote comfort, zeal, and perseverance in all holy obedience, from a sense of gratitude; and in nowise interferes with the obligations and responsibilities of men; but when made a party question, and run into extremes, (to which controversy leads), it becomes a snare to many souls -- a nurse of inaction, and a conductor to the ruins of Antinomianism. The opposite extreme should assiduously be guarded against -- dwelling on practical religion, and insisting on the duties and obligations of man, without keeping in constant view their moral and guilty disability, and the sovereignty of God in affording salvation to them, as unworthy, helpless sinners, as directly tends to the bogs of [synergism]. The truth of the gospel, rightly held and taught, is that which turns men away from darkness to light, and the power of sin to serve the living God, by faith which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." --James R. White "James 2:17 says that 'faith, if it hath not works, is dead.' An unfortunate legacy of modern evangelism is that one's assurance of salvation is attached to a decision. Biblically, however, assurance has nothing to do with the past; it's related to what your life is like right now. Jesus said, 'If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed' (John 8:31 ). Evidence of salvation is always present in a true believer." --John MacArthur See also post #152574. "Our deeds are not the basis of our salvation, they are the evidence of our salvation. They are not foundation, they are demonstration." --John Piper I liked your last sentence, there, John! |
