1 | The New Birth - A Survey | NT general Archive 1 | New Creature | 128859
I have been conducting an ongoing survey of willing participants in this forum. I would like to be able to wrap up my survey, but would appreciate your help. It would be helpful for me, if I could get as many responses as possible to the following question: In the event we Chrsitian's call "born again" which also has been called the new birth or regeneration, do you personally believe we are personally active or passive in bringing about our "new Birth?" All you have to do is answer; active or passive I do not desire to disagree with anyone, or argue about this with them. I just want to finish this survey and give you my findings. God Bless you all New Creature |

New Creature, Birth is usually passive for the one being born. I hold to baptismal regeneration and was baptized and "born again" as an infant, so I can't claim any active role. Therefore, I will go with passive. It is the living from then on that is active. Emmaus |

I personally believe we are ACTIVE in bringing about "new birth". The new birth or regeneration (Titus 3:5)is the act of God that gives eternal life to the one who BELIEVES in Christ. Before God plays the active role in giving eternal life, we must first play the active role of repentance and believing. |

True enough, but unregenerate man will do neither, neither repent nor believe, solely on his own initiative. Even these initial steps that lead to regeneration can be accomplished solely by the power of the Holy Spirit through the instrumentality of the word of God. "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" [Romans 10:17]. See also John 5:24. ...... John 16:8: "He [the Holy Spirit] will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness and of judgment." Our "active role" in salvation does not and cannot exist without the intervention of the work of the Holy Spirit. --Hank
