1 | Hosea and the significance of three | OT general | ChildofGod1988 | 209536 | ||
Hello all, I was reading through Hosea and in 6:2 It reads "after two days he will revive us, on the third day he will raise us up." I was wondering, this is another time (outside of the NT) where the three days is a theme. Is there any specific places in the Bible that I should look in order to find more about the three personification of God or the significance of three? I have always been curious as to why He reveals Himself in three persons. Thanks for the help folks. You are all a blessing from God!! COG88 |

The most powerful example showing significence of three days, at least in my mind, is that of Christ spending "three days in the heart of the earth" as He compared this to that of Jonah. Matt 12:38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” 39 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. 42 The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here. Man lusts for signs and miracles but Jesus was disappointed in the immaturity of these people. He wanted them to grow up and recognize all the signs and miracles He had already performed and accept Him as God as we do in this timeframe. As He said, Jesus' most powerful miracle would be His own Ressurection. Yes, there had been people in the past who had been raised from the dead but this was a first. No one had ever raised Himself from the dead as cited in... Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. This event was absolutely unique in the entire History of the World. And of course it is one of the principle foundations of our faith as described in... 1 Cor 15:12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. Yes, Totally Awesome. Go with God in all things, Bill |
