1 | Exodus - laws leaders must follow | OT general | JimTrail | 202245 | ||
Somewhere in the book of Exodus GOD tells laws about appointing kings (leaders). He says that kings may not enrich themselves when in office. He says essentially the same thing in Deuteronomy Ch. 17, Ver. 16 "But he shall not multiply horses for himself" In the book of Exodus GOD says it more exactly. What GOD says in the book of Exodus is that leaders are the servants of the people and therefore cannot enrich themselves while in office. Does anybody know where where it says the above in the book of Exodus. |

Hi, Jim... I do not think that these words regarding a king are recorded anywhere else in the Pentateuch. I have no such recollection, and I've verified my memory by checking a few other sources. In Him, Doc PS At first I was going to respond with a simple "Nay." But that would have made me a MARE-do-well. :-) |

Doc; I think that you are right. I have been searching myself and I can't find it. I started reading the Bible from Genesis Ch. 1, Ver. 1 a while back and thought that I remembered reading something like the above but I guess I must be mistaken. |

I found what I was looking for. The passage to which I was referring used the word "ruler" - not the word "king" /------- Exodus Ch. 18. Ver 21 (Regarding rulers) 21 Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. 22 And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you. /------- The key words in the phrases above are: "such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness" |
