1 | all things work together for good | OT general | fran1946 | 90253
thanks Edb for the response to the question. Not reading anything into it, but to every thing done it was for a purpose, and I was just wondering what the purpose was. Romams 8 tells us that all things work together for good to them that love God and the called according to his purpose. so what good came from Samsons revenge. just wondering. be blessed
2 | all things work together for good | OT general | EdB | 90355
First I'm not sure Romans 8:28 applies here since I don't know it was God's purpose for Samson to exact revenge. Israel and the Philistines were always fighting, Samson just did what any Jew would have liked to do. Exact some form of disaster on the Philistines. I don't think we should read to much into it other than violence breeds more violence. EdB |

3 | all things work together for good | OT general | fran1946 | 90375
I know it is hard to take bad things and see good things come from it. but God takes what the devil means to be harmful to us and turn it around for good toward us. now what ever samson reason was we know that it was distructive, and that along is wrong. but all through the bible you see that there were bad decisions made, but remember what the scripture tell us. what was written before time was written for our learning. It teaches us what not to do. and how ot obtain the unmerited favor of God. When Joseph was sold into salavry, that was for a purpose. was it not? and you are right violence certianly breeds more violence.

fran1946 Your absolutely right but remember there is more to the verse than, 'All things work together for the good of those that love the Lord.' It also says and is called to His purpose. We can do things that are not to God's purpose and the good that comes out of it might be the chastisement to teach us not to do it again. The old adage if you play with fire your going to get burned is true. However we understand the pain we feel when we are burned is to make us draw back so we don't do more damage. Many times this is how this verse plays out. We do something we really shouldn't be and God allows us to feel pain in one form or another to make us draw back so we don't do more damage to ourselves. Some people resist any thought that God would allow something bad to happen to us as His way of teaching us something. Yet as you said look at Joseph one bad thing after another happened to him until God got him in the place he wanted him. I believe nothing happens by chance but rather everything is orchestrated by the divine hand of God. There is not such thing as luck or chance. EdB |
