1 | Rapture and Day of the Lord the Same? | Bible general Archive 1 | doug619 | 9397 | ||
Is rapture and Day of the Lord the same? The answer is no. The Day of the Lord is described in Joel 2......... Joel 2:1-2 1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations. (KJV) We, as Gentiles, forget that the Jews are still God's chosen people. Jesus himself said ....... Matt 15:24 24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. (KJV) John 4:22 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. (KJV) It is because of their unbelief that we have been grafted in....... Rom 11:11-12 11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness? (KJV) The Jews look to the Day of the Lord as a time of rejoicing. Joel says it will be a time of trouble.Daniel says it will be a time of trouble (Dan. 12:1). The seven year period we call the Tribulation is known to the Jews as the Day of the Lord. It is the final week of the seventy week prophecy of Daniel (Dan. 9:24-27). The Rapture takes place first (Luke 21:24,Rms. 11:25-32,1 Thess. 1:10, 1 Thess. 4:13-18,1 Thess. 5:9-11,2 Thess. 2:6,7, Rev. 4:1) and then the the Day of the Lord begins in which "all Israel shall be saved (Rms. 11:26)"............... |

Greetings Doug619! Thanks for the additional Scriptures! I said that I would do a word study on the phrase "Day of the Lord," so here goes. The phrase occurs 24 times in 22 verses in the NIV. a) It will be a day of judgment and wrath on sinners - Is. 13:6-13. b) It will be a time of doom for the nations - Ez. 30:3, Ob. 15, Zeph. 1:7, Zech. 14:1-7. c) It will be a day of destruction - Joel 1:15, Zeph. 1:14, Amos. 5:18-20. d) The army of the Lord will sweep across the nations - Joel 2:1-11. e) It will be a time of salvation for His people - Joel 2:18-32, 3:14-16. f) Elijah will precede the Day of the Lord - Mal. 4:5. g) The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon blood - Acts. 2:20. h) Souls will be saved on the Day of the Lord - 1 Cor. 5:5. i) Paul will boast of the fruits of his labor on the Day of the Lord - 2 Cor. 1:14. j) It will come like a thief in the night - 1 Thess. 5:2, 2 Pet. 3:10. k) Some had claimed that the Day of the Lord had already come - 2 Thess. 2:2. l) The heavens and the earth will be destroyed on the Day of the Lord - 2 Pet. 3:10 I think I have listed all of the references! Based upon the above, it would appear that the Day of the Lord would have to refer to the Day of Judgment at the end of time. It will be on that day that "every knee shall bow" (Phil. 2:10) and that sinners will be judged. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
