I suggest a book by Richard Bolles, Called "What Color is Your Parachute" This book will help change your thinking and show you how to get a job where you want to live, in the type of work you want to be in, making the kind of money you want to make. This book is full of statistical proof that what it says works and the familiar methods that most people use do not. I can vouch for the methods becuase I used them to change careers and got the exact job I was looking for in my city when others said no one was hiring. The job I got was not in the newspaper or on the web, I followed the logical common sense methods in the book. God's will is not as limited as we sometimes think. God's will can be done in your life if you move out of state for a job or if you stay where you are at and get a job. I am in the market and I have had some opportunities come my way lately all out of state, I turned them down without prayer. Why? becuase I am not desperate. I know I am where I am supposed to be and I am do not need to be praying about moving. I will know when of if I am supposed to move somewhere and it will not be because of a job but because of a Call of God. You can know when you have a CALL OF GOD. It is not something we are not sure of. So until God Calls you to a radical move, seek a job where you are and don't believe the reports that there are no jobs. You only need one. It takes just as much prayer for God to lead you to that job he has for you in your city than it does to pray about moving. Get that book, it will tell you exactly how to do it. God Bless You. |

Scribe, Thank you so much for your response. I read and worked through What Color is Your Parachute before I found my current job. It was a very rewarding and thought provoking experience. After doing all of the exercises, I concluded that God wanted me to be in some sort of music ministry. However, no opportunites were available in the small Southern Utah town where we had recently moved. Thanks to an old friend of mine, who set me up with an interview, I currently work in a residential home for people with mental illness. It is a terrific job, but I am finding it difficult to support my family on the wage I am earning. The opportunity I was mentioning in my question was about returning to a job I previously had working with incarcerated youth, where the pay is much better. However, the deadline for the applications to the current opening was today. I view both jobs as ministries, and seem to have a gift for working with severely troubled people. Anyway, my wife and I and our four children moved to our current place of residence so that my wife could finish school to become a special education teacher. At the time we felt that God was leading us in that direction, and currently she only has one year of college left. So I was just wondering if God was showing me this short notice opportunity in order to get me to take a leap of faith and not lean on my own understanding, or if He was using it to show me my eventual destination, or if He was just using it wake me up and stop being so complacent in leading my family. Notwithstanding, as I write this note to you, I sense God helping me work through the fog of my own trigger-happy, all or nothing, anxious thinking. I am confident that he will guide my path. Thanks for your input. Yours in Christ, Jman |
