Greetings New Creature! Having pastored for many years now, and being involved in the church for about 32 years now, I would say that the greater danger is that those who stay away from church will be led astray. I really don't see indoctrination as a major problem in the organized church simply because the average Christian doesn't really know what their church teaches anyway! The list of reasons to attend or not attend a particular church seldom includes doctrine! :-( There is a greater danger of becoming lone ranger Christians, than of being indoctrinated. Tim; Your comments lead me to another question. Especially the following comment of yours - "the average Christian doesn't really know what their church teaches anyway!" My question is - If the so-called "average Christian" doesn't understand correct doctrine or teaching, is it possible for them to properly live up to the teachings of Christ Jesus? New Creature |

Greetings New Creature! You asked:"is it possible for them (the average Christian who doesn't understand doctrine or teaching) to properly live up to the teachings of Christ Jesus?" How does one "properly live up to?" According to Gal 2:20, WHO is doing the living? Jesus said, "Apart from me you can do nothing." (!)John 15:4 As a believer we not only have the Holy Spirit as our guide(John 16:13), but we also have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16) which enables us to understand the deep things of God. We, as the Church have been gifted to build up the body of Christ. I believe that God has given us His Spirit, His Word and His teachers to instruct us in the "way we should go." The responsibility of the individual believer is to be sure that ALL are in agreement; we are to "test the spirits" 1 John 4:1 These are just some observations for you to consider. I too attend a nondenominational church. We have our problems just like any other imperfect assembly of believers, but most importantly we all agree on our individual need for a personal Savior, and Jesus is His name. God bless, mommapbs |
